Over-due & now the panic starts!

So somehow I've made it all the way to my due date and beyond with out a single worry or apprehension about becoming a mummy to DS1 but now I'm 4days over due & it's seriously kicking in! Excitement is dwindling away & fear is kicking in "what on earth am I doing" & "can I really do this" thoughts are flowing..
Anyone else feel like this, BEYOND their due date???

Hell yes. I'm four days over too. Have been fairly calm through PG, but suddenly scared of everything from childbirth through to what to do when I get baby home, and have frequently told DH that, if it's all the same to him, I'd really rather have a puppy.

I don't deal well with uncertainty, and am telling myself that of course I'm freaked out, something big and scary and painful is going to happen to me at some point soon and I don't know when, and then I'll have a baby to look after. I think it would be more worrying not to be slightly freaked out! But I keep tekking myself billions of women have done it before and coped - many of them twice or more - so chances are I'll survive.

She says, hyperventilating slightly.

100% I'm now 5 days overdue and have gone from excited to petrified!! Last few days I was so annoyed that baby hadn't arrived and now I'm thinking its ok for baby to stay, the thought about what is going to happen next is very scary... It seemed like a good idea 9 months to say lets start a family but now the thought of being overdue and baby just getting bigger by the day and the only way out is the obvious makes me want to cross my legs forever ... Plus then what am I going to do with a baby! Any one had any pains or aches or feeling like labour isn't far off? X

I have ds 2.5 who was 5 days overdue and felt the same as you. Please don't worry, relax and enjoy your last few days as a single entity that can go to the toilet whenever the urge strikes! I liken the arrival of ds to a nuclear bomb going off in my life. Everything got blown apart (figuratively of course) and we had to start from zero. And no matter how hard it is and no matter how uncertain I am (and I am alot) it's great and he's still alive despite my many cockups.

Linzi yes! For the last week and a bit I've been having contractions but they always stop before they come to anything midwife says its slow labour & that its my cervix dilating that's causing the pains ! Scared me even more knowing what's to come soon! I've not been sleeping because I'm that scared of what's to come! :( x

Tinkerbell I'm exactly the same had my sweep on Tuesday was told I was favourable and had a soft cervix and was already 2-3cm , had my show and have been in slow labour with small aches and pains... I think that makes you worse because You dont know when the proper stuff is going to kick in and how sore is it going to be. I know we shouldn't complain millions of women have done it before us and will do it after but it's bloody scary plus the sleep deprivation makes it all seem worse, but at least we are dilating away I suppose that's a good thing! [hmmm]

It scares me cos the contractions I'm feeling now hurt ! I'm sat with a hot water bottle held to my bump & it really helps really not looking forward to the real thing! The impatience has gone and been replaced with fear or both labour & mummyhood! Have you got a date for induction Lynzi? x

Hopefully the pains now mean that your def on your way mine haven't even needed anything!but I'm sure that's not helping the fear of whats to come, what kind of birth are you hoping for? Not going to induce me until 6th ( next sat) have you a date? X

TeaOperated · 30/03/2013 22:24

Sounds promising for both of you! I've had no contractions, and when I saw the MW baby wasn't even engaged so there was no point in doing a sweep. I am getting period pain type cramps, but nothing regular. I know the baby can't stay in forever but feels like it might...

Not yet I get an induction date on Wednesday, I really don't want it to come to that though i really dont want to be induced, hoping for an active labour & natural birth (with pain relief!) just not epidural however these pains and the pain i felt at the sweep are making me question that decision !
What about you? MW at hospital said the period pains are a good thing it means your cervix is dilating & softening some women don't get pains and it all happens at once I don't know if I'm glad the works started early to help build up for the main event or not !! Confused
Hopefully we'll all have it over with soon all this anticipation is not doing me any good! x

Try and look at the early contractions positively. The more cm you dilate now, the closer you are to giving birth, without being 'properly' in labour. Gets some of the work out of the way!

I'm not overdue but could've written this post too. I'm 38+3 but they've said they will induce me if I don't give birth by 40 weeks due to my age and history of 6 lost pregnancies prior to this one.

I had acupuncture yesterday to try and bring on labour and am booked for a sweep on Tues, which I'm now shitting myself about after reading so many posts and comments on here about how painful it is.

I stupidly left it rather late to hire a TENS machine from Boots or Mothercare as my baby had been breech for a while so was waiting to see if I was having a CS or not. When I called Boots they told me the best way to get one on the spot was from Boots but via Tesco's pharmacy. I went there today to go and get one, but it was nearly closing time by the time I got there so they wouldn't give me one as I didn't have time to fill in all the paperwork. I didn't realise they shut early today and they are not open again now until Tuesday. Now I'm worried about not having it for pain relief if things kick off before then. Being on a bit of a hormonal hair trigger, I then got myself all in a state. Scared about birth, petrified about becoming a mother, worried about not bonding, possibility of PND etc, not to mention the fear that, on the other side of the coin, the unspeakable fear that something could still go horribly wrong. Even though it's been a very rocky 6 year TTC mission, it's still all been 'talk' up until now.

I had this - you are not alone! I went 12days over and every minute I was thinking, "well, elQuinto, no turning back now!".
I couldn't picture DS in my arms, in the cot ,feeding. We'd been practising pushing a bear around the flat in the pram - still none of it sank in.
Then, just 1 day over, I'd wake up and be nervous all day, expecting a twinge and the fear would hit: what the bloody hell do I do with a baby??

Learn as you go and enjoy as much as you can Thanks

Baby def feels like it could stay in there forever TOperated!!lol it's period pains I started with and baby wasn't engaged but still got sweep so stay positive ! I know tinker bell I feel like I shouldn't be complaining as some people are in agony at this stage, I'd hate for an induction too hoping for water birth maybe and not ruling out pain relief because I'm now realising how much of a whimp I am! Hopefully this time next week we will both have our babies!
Having kittens I'm sure you are nervous after your history but look how far you've got to now, I'm in belfast and we get our tens machines straight from the hospitals can you request one from there if you go before boots reopens next week? Also everyone's sweep is different mines really didn't hurt at all so try and stay positive xx

Have you tried driving over speed bumps?! My uncle drove my cousin over speed bumps at 25mph, went into labor same day. I'd even get a taxi to do it if I couldn't drive haha.

Still waiting too. Midwife going to call this morning and I'll see her today/tomorrow for a sweep. Getting pains this morning but more related to going nuts in the garden, I think. Ah well, babies are clearly very comfy, and giving their mums a chance to get their heads around things!

I wake up to about 4 texts as well and they just keep coming through the day I know people mean well but are they starting to frustrate anyone? I hate getting ones asking "are u still pregnant " what a silly question!! I'm hardly going to reply no I've had the baby but just didn't tell you! Sorry rant over!!
Good luck on the MW appts and sweeps!! Xx

Haha Lynzi I'm exactly the same !! Me and DP get so frustrated with it! When my phone rings he won't let me answer it because we both know what's coming, Then he'll get a call because I haven't answered my phone & they think I'm in hospital! I'm sure everyone thinks I'm going to have this baby and not tell anyone.. Don't worry it frustrates us too! Haha my mum is in Belfast and I've just moved away before I got pregnant and so she's forever ringing and texting saying "anything yet?????" Like I'm going to go into labour and not tell her ha ha xx
