Rib pain - 29 weeks

Any clues on what this could be would be great... Started yesterday and I thought it was my bra digging so took it off when I got home and it didn't go away it was a bit better overnight but this morning it's back

It's a bit like a dull ache on the left side under my breast where my ribs are it eases slightly when lying down on the opposite side to the pain I haven't done anything to my ribs that I know off but have heard that it can be caused by the baby pushing everything up as she grows? Obviously It is bank holiday weekend now so no dice

Doctors phoned midwife who said that it could be pregnancy but also could not be and to phone on Tuesday if it was still there

Any clues?

Hi pinkapples,

I don't want to alarm you unnecessarily but I felt I had to comment on your post due to my experience two years ago when I was 27 weeks pregnant.

I also had rib pain - the only way I can describe it, it that it felt like someone was pulling a belt tighter and tighter around the top of my ribs. I also felt breathless, sick and had hot and cold sweats. I was unable to sleep and just didn't know what to do with myself. I saw my doctor the next day who sent me to the hospital straight away for blood tests and it turned out I had severe pre-eclampsia and also HELLP syndrome, of which the rib pain was a symptom of my liver starting to fail. The only cure is delivery, so within hours I had to have an emergency c section. Sadly, my DS passed away aged six weeks from an awful bowel condition.

I'm really sorry if this sounds worrying but I couldn't ignore your post - please don't ignore this symptom. HELLP syndrome is rare and therefore barely mentioned in pregnancy books, but it happened to me and the main symptom was the rib pain. Even my doctor asked me if my bra was too tight! It wasn't - I just knew something wasn't right and after all, you know your own body.

Hopefully you will be fine but please get checked out for peace of mind.

I had terrible rib pain in both my pregnancies, it was just everything pushing up, and maybe little feet pushing up, It was horrible but I found certain positions made it bearable, I used to push it down a bit too hoping baby would move, don't worry too much , i had 2 healthy full term babies. But if your stressing go to the out of hours doctors and get it checked xx

Just wanted to say sorry this happened to you rose Sad I have a scan on Tuesday and will phone the doctor if it hasn't gone by then its only on one side thankfully no real sickness (other than throwing up lunch which I think didn't agree with me) but managed toast and a chocolate bar since then hehe

Thanks for the advice will phone doctor if not better by Tuesday just rubbish it fell on a weekend. It's not constant tho and it is more of an ache than a pain so hopefully its just my insides moving about hehe

I've had this too - thanks to a breech baby - it was exactly as you describe - a bruising feeling under my ribs - and was confirmed by my next scan.

That night I did the "down dog" yoga position & baby flipped! I'm much more comfortable now.

I also had PE & HELLP without any abdominal pain at all.

Hope that helps.
