What would you prefer morning sickness or weight gain

My friends have all had bad sickness so didn't show till 20 weeks as they couldn't face food or keep it down for long. However I have been fine, sick about three times and food is no issue, actually I had to eat to feel better but at 14 weeks I have a noticeable bump !!

I used sickness bands until about 6 months PG and was never sick during my 3 pregnancies and didn't gain much weight during pregnancies, either.

But take out the sickness bands and I'd probably go with weight over sickness. Weight doesn't hinder activity, sickness does.

I'd take weight gain over sickness every day. I've had HG both times and lost weight both times. It's been awful and very worrying. A few pounds or even stones can be lost after but Hg has robbed me of an enjoyable pregnancy.

I manage the spectacular trick of sickness AND weight gain Hmm by being terribly sick for the first nine weeks and then taking the meds and having to eat all the time to stop myself being sick.

Weight gain is always preferable to sickness, always always. I say that as someone who really resents the weight I put on during pregnancy.

Also, even when the sickness was at its worst my boobs were still the size of actual planets.

I've had both with both my pregnancies. With my first I had HG, couldn't even keep fluids down until I was started on medication. The mess helped with the actual vomiting but the only time I didn't feel nauseated was when I was eating carbs so put on about one and a half stone by 29 weeks when the sickness finally stopped.

I haven't been as sick this time. Still sick every morning but not had the all day grinding nausea. However the sickness did last till 32 weeks this time. Haven't out on quite as much weight this time either. 3 stone overall with 1st baby Blush and just under two and a half so far (38+5) with this one.

I would take weigh gain every time. The nausea is just so all consuming especially if it goes on for a long time. It made me miserable both times. I lost my baby weight reasonably easily last time too.

Thanks ladies! Looks like I should be more grateful for having mild sickness! Always thought I'd have a cute little bump! Don't think that's going to happen haha x

I had no morning sickness in either pregnancy but I did have weight gain.
I would rather have weight gain and tbh I really admire women who have managed to put up with morning sickness as I know I would have really struggled.

Oh let's see, massively debilitating true, longterm illness meaning you can't do your job, look after your children, yourself, your home. Needing to keep eating but it being the last thing you want to do, throwing up in the car park at work, in the street, in the supermarket. Being grey, and tired and unable to sleep because you feel so so sick. Feeling desperatly ill, and not able to tell anyone why, every day for months on end v looking a bit fat?

Weight gain of course! I have HG been on sickness tablets so have also managed to have nausea and needing eat therefore weight gain.

Only a person who has never had bad morning sickness would wonder this. It really is horrific!

Had HG so would take the weight gain any day!

Often the morning sickness and weight gain seem to go hand in hand (unless it's incredibly severe like HG), as eating continually can help with the nausea - so plenty of unlucky people end up with worst of both worlds! Personally I'd go for a few extra pounds every time, things often balance our later often and you can always lose it, but MS can be so unrelenting Sad

I am 14+5 and have suffered 24/7 morning sickness since week 6... AND the weight gain!!! Eating constantly alleviated the nausea... I can honestly say the sickness has been making me feel completely miserable and I would have had a far better quality of life this past 8 weeks had I not had the sickness and only the weight gain to contend with......

No brainer surely - definitely would rather put on weight than have morning sickness.

Easy enough to get to a diet class once the baby is here and putting on weight has never resulted in me having 8 weeks off work because I coudln't walk without puking and piling on the pounds wouldn't have stopped me from playing with my DS during pregnancy (which was crap)

I think if you've suffered with morning sickness you'll go for weight gain, the only people I can imagine picking m/s over weight gain are women who never really discovered the appalling things that extended morning sickness does to you and so don't really have a point of reference.

Been through both, gained 4st with first, felt healthy and happy though.
Second felt dreadful couldn't eat anything lost 1st 7, ended up looking like a skeleton, felt dreadful, looked dreadful, had only gained that back +3 pound when I went into labour.

I'd choose weight gain, and thats from someone that normally hates putting a pound on lol, but its for a good cause in pregnancy

I'm pretty scared of putting on weight but nowhere near as worried as I currently am that bump is suffering as a result of me not being able to eat much at all this week. I can cope with the sickness but I feel terrible that my lack of appetite isn't giving bump what it needs at such a crucial time.

saundy don't worry, they just take it from the nutrients stored in your body hence feeling so poop lol, first I gained 4st went 2wk over and baby was 6ib 8, second I couldn't eat much at all went into labour weighing 3 pound more then pre pregnancy, he was 9ib born more or less on time and very healthy. It starts to settle too so you can manage more to eat xx

First pg I had weight gain. This time I have sickness. I'd do the weight gain again tomorrow. The sickness has put me off ever being pregnant again.

Weight gain. I've been ill for the past 3 weeks and have now come down with a sinus infection. I haven't eaten anything substantial like a proper meal in a week. I keep vomiting every morning and have a horrible taste in my mouth probably due to pregnancy and the infection.
I'm feeling guilty for not eating for the baby but its hard when your head is pounding and you're bunged up and everything is sickening. I'd give anything to stop this feeling and be able to eat properly like I did with dd and DS.

Thanks beckie that's really reassuring, had a little tear of relief then, I think it must have been stressing me more than I realised!!
