"morning" sickness remedies(27 Posts)
Im around 6 weeks pg I think and for the last week Ive had really bad nausea. I havent actually been sick yet but for the last couple of days i have felt sick all day long. Its really awful and the thought of feeling like this for another 6 weeks makes me want to cry.
can you share with me your remedies please?
I've tried the motion sickness bands, ginger tea, ginger biscuits, all the old favourites, but they haven't helped. What I find does help is sucking on mints or polo's and sipping water constantly. And I find I am very nauseous on days when I am over tired, so at the moment am going to bed an hour earlier which seems to be helping.
Ah morning sickness. The single reason I'm not having any more DC.
My only real advice is to keep eating and have a bottle of water secreted about your person somewhere. I've tried EVERY remedy going and it's the only thing that helped.
I found it easier with my 2nd DC because I think my attitude to it was better too. I stopped trying to find a cure and accepted that I felt and was sick, and that I was going to keep throwing up indefinitely (I had sickness all the way through both pregnancies). Importantly I ate whatever I fancied in the full knowledge that I would probably see it again shortly. At least I enjoyed eating it at the time!
So pockets full of sweets, biscuits, crackers etc are the way forward. Keep munching!
And you will get through it. It's bloody awful but it does end!
yy to keep eating - plain boring stuff like jacobs crackers (they're also good for middle-of-the-night-munchies in the third trimester and insatiable breastfeeding-induced hunger)
I had it from about 6 to 35 weeks but didn't feel as ill
The seabands help me and sucking polos. Also keep hydrated and get lots of sleep. I've been glugging a big glass of water and a biscuit when I get up, then puke it up shortly after before going to work, then I feel relatively ok by the time I get there. Getting it all out and not letting the nausea sit in my belly seems to help me. Also if you try and eat something and it makes u queasy, don't eat it. My midwife said even if I just eat Pringles for a few weeks to get by and drink smoothies its fine as long as I'm taking my pre-natal vits. Feeling your pain hun, stay strong.

it seems the consensus is nothing really helps! am keeping topped up on the water and trying to eat regularly.

its a homeopathic remedy. You can get it in boots and health food shops.
I had bad nausea in my 3rd pregnancy and we were visitng dps grandparents in france (homeopathy is really big in france) and she gave me it and it really did seem to make a difference.
I now keep it in the car for travel sickness and its not bad for hangovers too.
I was vommiting at least once a day until I was 16 weeks - my boss (a man!) finally booked me an acupuncture appointment (he said it helped his wife, and I think he was a bit fed up with me!) and although I did think it was all nonsense, I wasn't sick again after the first session and after the second, I stopped even feeling naseous. It could just be a coincidence cause I was well into the second trimester by then, but its something to try if you get desperate!
I feel sick all day, but haven't actually been sick. I find that eating regularly helps as I feel better whilst I'm eating. But to avoid eating too much, maybe break up your meals e.g. if you have a sandwich for lunch, maybe have one half at 12pm then the other at 2pm. At the moment, I can only stomach toast or cheese and tomato sandwiches. Bread-induced constipation here we come!
I also find that sipping on bitter drinks helps. I'm currently drinking warm Ribena with honey and lots of lemon.
As a veteran of 2 hyperemisis pgs, I'd recommend Pregnancy Sickness Support, ice cubes and Mini Cheddars.

serious yes, i have been doing exactly that with my sandwiches (also cheese and tomato!)
I had all-day nausea from week 5 until about week 20. From hearing a few stories on here though I think I got off lightly.
Mine wasnt really cured by anything but some things helped like...
1) Eating as soon as I got up
2) Lightly carbonated drinks, like sparkling elderflower
3) Eating constantly - at least every two hours, and not letting my stomach go empty (nuts, dried fruit, dry biscuits as snacks and light meals)
4) Mints after eating to get rid of the taste of food straight away
5) Ginger chews - I think you can get them from most health food shops
6) Ginger oat cakes - they are dry dry dry - but did help
7) Salted rice cakes/salt crackers - the salt helped
8) Salt and vinegar crisps - again I have no idea but it helped! Vinegary things seemed to take away the odd taste I always had in my mouth...
9) Lots of water
Things that made mine worse:
1) Really oily or fatty food (particularly fatty meat)
2) Anything spicy, urgh - still cant eat anything spicy at 33 weeks...
If you can ask your DP to bring you a bowl of cereal in bed before you get up, graze on carbohydrates all day (take some toast crumpets for snacks at work) , suck indisgestion tablets or get some gaviscon (on prescription), find a fizzy drink ( ginger ale, elderflower squash and fizzy water) you like.
If you feel sick don't try and fight it, be sick and get on with it, it's a bizarre thing morning sickness the only time you can throw up and start eating immediately after!
Try ginger capsules if you haven't already...may have been complete coincidence but after a few days of taking these bad boys, the nausea was probably half the intensity it had been before (however was also wearing sea bands so that could have helped too/instead)!.
Also found eating as soon as I got up (or even when I woke up in middle of night) really helped. Just a cracker or biscuit. Plus sucking on sweets, and sipping water. And sleep!
i am nibbling throughout the day..feel like im eating constantly
at my desk and feeling exhausted now. i also feel really guilty as i usually try and go to the gym at lunchtime but im just too tired.
Acupuncture helped me, but each session only lasted about three days...didn't stop me throwing up but really helped with the nausea (did mean I had less warning to get to bathroom though!). also meant I got to lie down and doze for 20 mins mid week at work which was lovely. However got a bit expensive in the end as mine stuck around until 16 weeks.
I echo what others said re not getting overtired....if I had a disturbed night I learnt better to stay in bed for lie in and be late to work than try to go in and spend the whole time sat in my knees in front of the loo...
Good luck, it is utterly grim but for most of us it does go eventually (although there will be some things you will never want to eat or smell again!)
Also, ice lollies were a godsend to me - fruit pastille ones.....mmmmnnn looolllliieeesssss.....
Lots of very sound advice already but thought u would let you know that I suffered terribly until someone told me to try Luxozade! Just sip it every time you feel sick. It really helped me! Have it next to you at night too. Also salt and vinegar crisps for some reason too. It will go eventually!

Worked for me.
I found it was bearable as long as I ate plain stuff little and often - it seemed to get massively worse when I hadn't eaten for a bit, and anything really sweet like a bar of chocolate, or artificially sweetened like Options hot chocolate drink, was deadly. Avoiding anything which I had even the slightest aversion to also helped - tea and coffee went pretty quickly, as did meat and chicken, bananas, salad veg and cake-y type stuff, plus diet coke <boak> as it just tasted of sweeteners to me.
For lunch at work I'd take in the same kinds of things as I'd have done before, but in such a way that I could eat a tiny bit at a time if I was at my desk (sandwich cut into six squares, grapes rather than an apple, ryvita for nibbling at, tiny bits of cheese scone, those Heinz soup pouch in a cup things rather than a jacket spud from the canteen, etc.). Porridge for breakfast always helped too, as long as I could go straight downstairs and make it quickly as eating early helped lots.
For dinner, in each pregnancy I went at least two straight weeks eating only pasta, cheese and tinned tomatoes.
I tried ginger beer this time, and it worked quite well as long as I also had Gaviscon in my handbag.... Also drank a ridiculous amount of soda water and diet indian tonic water, both of which made me feel a bit better.
Finally - toothpaste was the enemy. For the first trimester I ended up using an electric toothbrush with a tiny round head and the merest suggestion of toothpaste, with my mouth wide open to try not to trigger the whole gagging thing. Once I got past about 12 weeks I found that if I could avoid being sick when I brushed my teeth the day would be generally OK, but if I gagged while brushing I'd had it.
Finally lifted at 22 weeks.... Thank god this will be my last pregnancy!
Oh, and YY to not getting overtired - DH was angelic and let me lay in bed on weekends this time, while he got up with our early-rising DS, which helped massively.
