I quit by gradual reduction and resolutely not buying fags... pretty soon you'll get embarrassed by cadging all the time (and people will start getting annoyed at you).

Also - I really cut down initially by just smoking 1/2 the fag before crushing it (expensive... but it worked for me!) so I instantly cut down from about 10 a day to 5 a day, and then cut down by 1 fag a week until I was having a 1/2 fag every couple of days. When you're at that stage - you might as well not bother smoking. That way I quit during my first trimester (as smoking becomes more of an issue to the baby after the placenta is established... in other words... quit soon mate - or at least reduce... I know it's hard - so here's wishing you all the best of luck in the world).

It's hard. Remember it's hard. Don't beat yourself up if you fall of the wagon. Always remember that reduction in smoking is also a valid thing too!

I always knew that getting pregnant would be the only thing that would make me quit. Smoked 20 a day for 14 years and stopped two days after I found out I was carrying ds1. First three days were hell on earth and still had rough days for a long time after. But... I have never gone back to it. You will never have a better reason. Your baby needs a healthy mum and you can do lovely things with the money you savesmile

I also found (and it doesn't work for everyone I know) Alan Carr amazing - the course is great if you can get to one, money back guarantee if you fail, plus the book - how to stop smoking and give up permanently (not the original easy way book - he re-wrote it and added a lot extra in it, partic. with stuff related specifically to women). It basically works on NLP and reprogramming your way of thinking to undo all the years of how you associate smoking, as effectively after 3 days it is a mental addiction, and a very very hard one to shift. Really best of luck hun.

Good for you quitting - lots of luck Chloe and I hope you go on to have a happy healthy pg.

I do agree with ExpatAl - just do it and stop overthinking it.

Hey Chloe <disclaimer: I am NOT pregnant> but I have quite my 20+ a day habit 13 days ago.

You have the biggest incentive going.

I am not going to lie the last 13 days have been tough but if I can do it anyone can.

Want to know my mantra: Having one won't stop you wanting one.

Talk to your MW. If you want to drop on this thread we are supporting each other.

I haven't quit using Champix but the ladies are lovely.

Google everything related to the dangers of smoking when pregnant and immerse yourself in it. I did this before I got pregnant as a smoker, and found it really easy to stop having done the research properly. Worked for me and good luck!!!!!! :-)

It's stressing you because you're letting it. Just have your last ciggie before you go to bed and start the next day not smoking. It really is as easy as that. You will have the odd dificult time but just have a big glass of water and don't give it any thought.

Speak to your MW about this there is really so much offered to help people because of the dangers.

My friend was offered lots of things as she was in the same position, she never quit and her baby was born at 28 weeks due to placenta previa.

I'd speak to the MW ASAP.
