Is sex safe??

At my 20 week scan they said I have an anterior placenta and the sonographer wasn't overly sure how low it was. I am having another scan in a few weeks but in the meantime was wondering if it would be ok to have sex, nothing was said at the time but a friend has since said she was told it was potentially quite dangerous. Any ideas ladies?

If your placenta is not low and you have no issues then perfectly safe.

I'm not overly sure whether it's low or not until my next scan, it's all very confusing!

Next scan? If you had placenta previa or a low placenta they would have told you. If they mentioned no more than an anterior placenta and didn't discuss scans at 32/34 weeks to see if your placenta moved I think you can assume it isn't low. It should be documented on the scan results in your handheld notes.

I am having another scan in 2 weeks, and another at 34 to see if its moved. Even the consultant (who I'm seeing for other reasons) was very confused at the lack of detail because all my notes actually say is "left lateral" which gives me nothing to go on really!!

So it is low then? Anterior just means it is on the front wall, they aren't concerned about that, more whether it is low or not. Really they should advise you if you should be abstaining or not, I personally would until you see the consultant or get more specific advice from your health care team. It all seems very woolly at the moment, I hope it becomes clear!

Sorry, I missed the bit where you said it was low but don't know how low. For now I would avoid, when they know the degree of previa (or not) then they will advise you. Sorry, I am useless!
