Has anyone missed/skipped a midwife apt?

I can't get in with my midwife for my 31wk check (they have loads of apts free but won't book the late ones until the morning is booked-which I can't do) so I'm going to have to wait until my 34wk apt. I hate the thought of missing an apt but I've been well so far but you always think what if...

Cant you make an appointment with the GP instead?

Why can't you do the morning? I wouldn't miss it to be honest. If you really can't do the morning can you do the week before or after?

These appointments are for a reason, I could never forgive myself if something awful happened that could've been picked up and prevented. 2 of my friends had Pre-Eclampsia and subsequently premature (yet alive) babies, both noticed at routine appointments.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it's only 10 minutes out of a morning and it could potentially save yours and your babies life.

I used to have this problem. Had to make an appointment with the gp a couple of times instead.

What is so important that you would skip a midwife appointment? We are very lucky we have such good antenatal care here, it annoys me that some see it as an inconvenience.

Definitely wouldn't skip an appointment. I hope you can make it.

I was away on holiday for the 28 week appointment and so went at 30 weeks and it wasn't a problem. explain to your MW, i am sure she will work around it.

I skipped an appointment to go and buy my wedding dress. At the next routine appointment at 36 weeks I was rushed in an ambulance to hospital with severe pre eclampsia and had a c section 3 hours later, I spent the night in intensive care with my DS being babysat in SCBU. Not saying this will happen, but best not to skip just in case.

I've tried to make an apt so many times, the next apt was 12.15 I work by apts too and had a client booked In with myself already at that time so asked if I could do later but they will only book consecutive apts so they don't get "gaps" in their day, I rang the health clinic to see if they could fit me in there but they said no need if there are apts at my docs, with them, I'm not trying to get out of it I want to go, I didn't realise the gp could do the checks the midwives do so thanks for that tip!!!

Oh and I don't see it as an inconvenience I want to go, I just didn't know if there was an alternative there's only 1 clinic in my whole town and they only do a day in each gp surgery but will get in with gp!

Can't you just go the next week?

Can you make an appointment for the following week (I had to do that a few times in both pregnancies for various reasons)? You could then try for an appointment on the "proper" day by phoning late the day before or first thing on the day and see if all the early appointments have been taken so you can get a later one.

We are lucky that our hospital has a walk in clinic at weekends and on Weds nights which I have used. Does yours have anything like this?

I can't get a midwife appointment next week so they have offered me a home visit instead.

I missed one through stupidity last time and just went the week after instead, can you not do that?

As someone said, you can speak to the midwife directly. Mine just saw me after her last appointment. We are quite lucky here in that they also do drop in clinics 5 days a week at various times as well.

My midwife only does Wednesday morning appointments every 2nd week, at my dr surgery. Not sure how that works if I go over my dates, as its meant to be weekly appointments then. I have missed a couple of appointments so far because the midwife was fully booked, so had to go a couple of weeks later (next lot of appointments) instead. I have had my blood pressure and urine checked by the practice nurse though, but had to speak to my gp to get this done.
