Post-Birth Pyjamas - What Size to Buy?

I am about halfway through my pregnancy and would quite like to buy a nice comfy pair or two of pjs for post-birth, if I happen to see them. But not sure what size to buy as I'll obviously be bigger still at that point. I'm usually a size 14-16.

Any clues, or should I wait until nearer the time?

Good question. I didn't think of this properly with dc1 and ended up sending dp to tesco. I'm a size 14 and he bought size 18 -20 which were perfect for my week in hospital post birth but prob too big by the time dd was 2 weeks - not complaining!

Apparently post birth you'll look about (on average) 25 weeks preg. So however big you are at that point, that'll be about right. Good luck!

Excellent question, and I have no idea. I've been thinking about this too when I went shopping. Ended up buying a size up.

In normally a 10-12 and at 24 weeks I for comfortably in 12, so I suspect I'll be a 12 post-birth? (I hope I'm not more than that!)

I was barley showing at 25 weeks and looked like I was 8 months pg for at least a week post birth (had v tearful moment in hospital on day 2 when I tried to get properly dressed for the first time and none of the 'about 25 weeks" clothes I'd packed would fit Sad. Spare yourself the grief and plan on wearing your maternity oes for a bit longer (pjs and clothes generally).

With DS1 I put on loads of weight towards the end and swelled up a lot as well so my maternity nightware was the only thing that would fit me for a long time afterwards. When the baby weight started to come off i then bought some nice pgs and glad i waited as i still wear them now. With this pg I have not out on as much weight at all and no swelling so have packed both maternity pjs and my pjs before pg that have plenty of room. Have also packed some 25 week pg leggings so If neither fit then can always wear those for few hours and send DH to shops and next do next day delivery if you order online.

I would definately wait until last month as i think it really all depends on how big and how much weight you put on towards the end.

For immediately after, might be worth considering a nightie as I found trousers too annoying and uncomfy, and normally I hate nighties. I just wore my maternity stuff then until it got too big, then I had a few pairs that were a size bigger than normal before going back to usual Jammies. Plus stuff ends up getting ruined with milk all over the shop, or maybe that was just me... I would wait to get something nicer tbh.

I'm not sure myself. I'm still in my normal size pjs at 29 weeks the large bump is noticeable underneath but is not tight or uncomfortable.
My pjs cost a tenner from Peacocks and they are like the soft cottony material with buttons down the middle. Really comfy and when I need a bigger size I will just buy a couple more pairs from there. So cheap but comfy it wouldn't matter if I didn't fit in them very long.

If you're halfway through now, then I guess baby is due in the summer? Be warned that night sweats are really common straight after birth, and combined with hot weather you might not be in the mood for wearing your new pjs! Also, if you're breastfeeding, you still need to feed regularly in the night and it can be quite messy until established. Plus you do slim down quite a lot in the early post-birth weeks so your size might change very quickly. So my advice would be to wait till autumn and buy something nice then :)

I bought a nice pair of maternity pjs from jojomamanbebe which had a drawstring waist underneath the bump and a big over bump panel. I still wear them now with the panel folded down and I am back to my normal size. They were/are really comfy :)
