Ha ha! No idea what the red cabbage test is, but my sister's friend has a good way of guessing the baby's gender by your skin. She reckons that if you have lovely skin throughout your pregnancy, you're having a boy and if you get loads of spots, you're having a girl. She's been right a scary amount of times, but it surely won't work for everyone. Nice idea though :)

Red cabbage test: Boil water. Meanwhile, chop up half of a RED cabbage (must be red). Place in large bowl or pot. Pour boiling water over cabbage and leave to soak for 10-15 min. Strain and KEEP LIQUID. Allow to cool completely and then add EQUAL parts of FMU (is said to be best, but any time of day will work) and the cabbage liquid.
PINK or RED result means -- BOY!!
PURPLE result means -- GIRL!!

The spotty one doesn't work on me. 3 girls no spots. No idea of this one but no spots

So boil red cabbage, add piss to the water, and the colour tells you what sex baby you're having?

Hmm

All it is doing is testing the acidity of your urine.

It's a good job any house guests you cook for don't know you're all making cabbagey-piss soup Grin

Ooh I am 38 weeks, know I'm having a girl, and am sufficiently bored to test this out. But I don't have a red cabbage and can't be arsed to put DS in the car and drive to the shop to buy one.

My skin / general looks have been much better this time (pg with girl) than previous boy pregnancies when I looked awful after about 25 weeks.

Verek - a girl at my work said the same thing! She is Czech and told me they have an old wives' tale that baby girls 'steal' their mother's beauty while in the womb, so if you have bad skin, look tired etc it is because you are having a girl (thankfully beauty is returned on having the baby). If no such problems, you are having a boy.

I was flattered she predicted a boy for me Smile. Although, everyone else in my life (not using the same test, I hope) has predicted a girl!

Red cabbage water reacts by changing colour depending on whether you add something acidic or alkaline. If you add lemon to it it will turn pink. If you add soap to it it will turn green. This test just confirms whether your wee is acidic (turns pink) or not (stays purple). If determining the sex of the baby was as easy as measuring the acidity of the urine I'm sure everyone would be out buying pH strips in droves.

Lol BonaDea at 'stealing' the mothers beauty! Not that I had much beauty to start with but my DD has definitely robbed me of what was left - dark circles, dry skin, spots, greasy hair....my hubby doesn't know how lucky he is! Lol!

Willing to try this as went for my 20 week scan today & they couldn't tell, I am distraught by this (pregnancy hormones I think) & this may tide me over until I can book a private gender scan!

Of course it doesn't work. it is coincidence. Cabbages do not grow with some sort of penis detection device built in.
