hey i posted a few weeks ago saying i thought i had thrush since before i found out i was pregnant. im now 11 weeks i had swabs taken last week and the results came back as normal so it isn't thrush. so, i am now very confused as to why i am so irritated and sore down there :-/ any ideas? i wear cotton underwear, idont use soap down there to wash anymore, been told to wash with clear water only so i do. could it just be the discharge from the pregnancy irritating me? thanks in advance xx

Sounds like you're just being irritated by the increase in vaginal discharge.. However I would keep an eye on it, due to the changes in the PH ( acidity) of the vagina in pregnancy, thrush can crop up easily and be a right blighter to treat. Continue to use only water, don't wash too often ( your vagina will only make more discharge to correct its PH). Wear cotton undies and don't get too hot. If the discharge changes colour or changes consistency, see your midwife. Incidentally if you get thrush applying natural yoghurt on your itchy bits at night can help as the bacteria in the yoghurt "eats the yeasty thrush". Hope it improves for you. Smile

thanks. i wondered if it was thrush as it felt so similar (i'v suffered from it a lot!) but it didn't seem as bad so was unsure. i will keep an eye on it.. it's hard not too it's so irritating haha! i am going to ask my midwife about it at my next appointment as the doctors are useless! xx

I totally sympathise, I had this when I was 35 weeks and it's so irritating. I would have given anything to use sandpaper to scratch as scratching until I was in pain seemed the only thing that slightly helped Confused

I was treated twice for thrush, but it didn't clear it and my test results for thrush and OC, came back as clear. I feel like I tried everything under the sun - yoghurt, tea tree cream, aqueous cream with menthol, doublebase gel, clotrimazole cream, but nothing helped soothe the itch.

My mw said I just was extra itchy but I kept complaining until I saw an antenatal doctor. He prescribed me chlorphenamine tablets and betnovate cream which worked miracles!

I don't know if these would be suitable for you as it's still early in your pregnancy, but if you are still being driven mad by it, keep on at your mw.

My itchiness went when I gave birth (my DS is now 8wo, it did come back again 4 weeks ago but that's another story!)

I hope you get something sorted

MrsR, without sounding like I'm trying to scare you as I'm really not, I would advise that you ring the midwife or local maternity unit and see if there is someone to check you over. It's most likely just ligament pain, but you can never be too careful

I has this last week, felt very swollen underneath and extremely itchy especially at night. Thought it was thrush but was actually related to haemarhoids (sp), saw my GP who gave me Sheriproct ointment and the itching disappeared almost instantly. Might be worth asking your GP?

i googled it the other day but then my partner and i had sex n he got it too i rang my midwife and asked if i could take a pessery and she said yes and its calming down so yeh pretty positive it is thrush and the doc was wrong. i thought it was as had it so much before. thanks for all the advice though. pretty sure it was the docs being ignorant. they always have been useless which is why im switching docs when the snow has gone! xx
