I'm going for my first scan due to some cramping and some spotting that developed over the weekend... If everything turns out normal will they tell me when I'm due etc? I haven't had my first midwife appointment yet and I don't think my partner will be able to make it to the scan with me and I'm frightened that they will bypass my scan after my booking appointment and that he will miss it... can anyone advise? Thanks!

Do you know roughly how far along you are? I went for a scan at 6+5 and they gave me a due date. I still had a 12 week scan and the date matched, my first scan was private though so I can't advise regaring them missing your 12 week scan. It was my doctor that set the wheels in motion for that for me though and not my midwife
I hope everything is ok tomorrow xx

I've had 4 early scans at nhs 2 with ds1 and 2 with this 1, they didnt give me a due date any of the times, just said roughly how far i was, ds1 the 12wk scan put me around 5 days in front of early scan. And I havnt had my 12wk scan yet its in 2.5wk but the early scan was putting my dates back by a whole week, even though I have regular cycles and got my posative cycle day 29, so will find out if thats right at my next scan, when I questioned the Sonographer, he said the early scans arnt used for dating and can be 5 days out, its more to check the pregnancy is in right place and things are normal. But I assume its different in differnt areas xx

I had a scan at 6 and a bit weeks for bleeding and they said they could date from it so counted it as my dating scan and said I wasn't eligible for a 12 week scan. I went private for the scan at 12 weeks and had nuchal testing too, which wouldn't have been offered on the NHS at the time (4 years ago).

Nowadays they do nuchal fold testing at the 12 week scan so it's possible they'd still offer it even if they could date from the early scan.

I had my first scan between Christmas & New Year as they thought I was 12 weeks then, I was only 10+4 & they told me my due date then too, 12 weeks today & have my actual 12 week scan booked in a week on Tuesday. You should get another one as they can only do certain things then, for example if you want the nuchal fold test to see whether your high risk or low risk for downs this can only be done between 12 & 14 weeks, this is the reason I believe I'm having my second scan in my opinion as I already know dates but as your earlier than I was I would of thought they would give you another to double check dates. Good luck! Smile

Depends on your hospital some trusts won't do a 12 week scan if you have a scan after 8 weeks. If you are only 7 you should be ok. The best way to ensure you also get a 12 wk scan is by requesting the nt combined test when you see your midwife. You can always change your mind on the day and they will just do the usual 12 week dating scan
