Pregnancy

food aversion has disappeared

I used to be an avid tea drinker before pregnancy then went off it (very usual for me!)

Midwife at my first booking appointment said this was great and the body is amazing at avoiding foods that might be bad for the baby (she said it's the tanins in tea that are bad, not so much the caffine).

Has anyone else experienced an aversion/craving suddenly going? I know as pregnant ladies we take ANY excuse to worry ourselves silly so I TRY not to give in to my worries too much, but coupled with a bit of tummy pain the last couple of days I'm now worrying that something is wrong!! Think the tummy pain might be due to constipation coming on but doesn't help it started when I ran for my bus the other day

Oh my brain! must stop worrying

My aversions have changed a few times, I had a few weeks of being off tea then it was meat in general & now its just pork.

I looked in the freezer recently (33 weeks) and found two boxes of lemonade ice lollies. At the start I was seriously mad for them and at some point it obviously went as I've not touched them in ages.

I went right off tea and coffee for about 14 weeks, then it went so I started drinking decaf versions instead. Still can't eat salmon though, and DS is 16 months old now!

I couldn't stand even the smell of coffee for the first few months, but then it just eased off and I was fine to drink it - although I pretty much stopped being hungry for anything other than orange juice for the rest of the pregnancy, and had to force myself to eat meals..

yeah i went off chocolate in the early days, but i'm usually a chocoholic. now i can eat it and sometimes really fancy it. but i'm nowhere near my usual chocoholic self. went off anything fatty but now eating lots of cheese and butter. i wouldn't worry too much, things come and go. but you're right, pregnancy is just a 9 month panic!

Tanins are only bad because they can deplete iron, I think.

I don't believe that food aversions are at all about avoiding what is bad for you.
(Have thought long & hard about this, lived on junk food in many pregnancies). Only got thru pregnancy with DD by eating lots of tuna (mercury, anyone?)

Mine change daily, craving something one day and can't even look at it the next, so I don't think thre's anyting to worry about. At the moment off coffee and can't even think about any kind of white fish, but would love a bottle glass of wine..

I couldn't bear the smell or taste of fish for the first 16 weeks and now at 29 weeks I love it again. I also craved toasted sandwiches at the start and can now take them or leave them. Things change all the time when pregnant. I have loved Oranges and Orange juice throughout though!
