Pain at top of bump

I'm 24 weeks and am in some discomfort at the top of my bump, in the middle under my boobs. It sort of feels like a burn or bruise, sort of tender feeling but feels more on the surface rather than deep inside IYSWIM. After eating it hurts more. I don't know if it is connected but a couple of times a couple of weeks ago I woke up in the night with a sort of painful yanking feeling there.

Does this just sound like normal stretching or something more to worry about?

I am not a medical professional!

I've had similar during both of my pregnancies, caused by my rib cage expanding. However, it's always worth discussing anything like this with your midwife so they can make sure you don't have any other symptoms that could add up to something dangerous and/or treatable.

My friend has this and she's torn something, aargh can't remember what. She was told it will heal. Up properly after the babies are born.

Thanks both of you, I hope it is just the expanding. Torn something though? Ouch. I cracked and called NHS direct as I just ate and it now feels quite painful to touch.

I'm sure it's nothing, just your rib cage expanding as others have said. However, if it gets worse please get it checked out as I can be a sign of pre-eclampsia.

Take care.

I feel very silly. NHS direct diagnosed heartburn Blush

I thought heartburn was felt much higher up than that!

Thanks all :)

I've had this, mine was heartburn...Gaviscon sorted it out. That could explain why it hurts when you eat and you have it it in the night when you lay down...that's when mine is worst. I've woken at 2am and had to swig Gaviscon!

I can confirm that Gaviscon has instantly made it better. I'm glad it's not just me femme :)
