Anterior placenta

I've had a scan today (15+3) and I've just looked at my notes and the sonographer (who was lovely) has written Anterior Placenta in my notes - what does this mean?

It means the placenta is at the front. As opposed to at the back wall (posterior)

Aah - does this mean I'll feel fewer movements do you know?

Quite possibly, don't worry if you don't feel movements till 20 + weeks, and even then not as strong as they would otherwise be.

I have an AP too and was 19 weeks before I felt anything at all and it was a good 4/5 weeks later before DH got to feel anything too.
On the plus side, i'm now 35w and currently sat with a bump with hiccups (again) and little feet poking out the right side of bump. THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD!!

Hi Ellypoo - I was just told I have one, too. I'm 20+2 and haven't felt anything yet (or at least only the vaguest feelings and I'm not sure if it's movement or not).

It basically just means the placenta is at the front of your uterus not the back. It doesn't affect the baby or the potential birth, it just makes movements more muffled because the placenta is between you and the baby.

Kafri - great to hear it - was starting to worry I'd have to wait forever!

I had an AP when I was pregnant with my baby girl, I started feeling her move at 18 weeks I was shocked I remember being sat in the doctors and u felt this crazy flutter like I had a bubble pop In me and it happened about 4 times and my midwife confirmed it was in fact my little Amy rose wiggling around in there as I got further on the movement wasn't as strong I never felt them at the front of my belly only the sides she had her back sticking out on my left side her bum under my boobs and her legs in my ribs on my right side I never felt her arms move only when she would hit my cervix and it would make me jump out my skin lol

Congrats and enjoy your pregnancy it will be over before you know xx
