I'm 30 wks and have been having terrible heartburn since week 20, I've got it under control through avoiding spicy foods/tomatoes/garlic a lot of strong flavours and fizzy drinks but honestly I don't know if I can't eat another bland meal! I'm a veggie and basically lived on italian/Mexican/Indian type meals before and I've nut been able to have any in months please give me inspiration or a slap and tell me to woman up and get on with it

Go to GP and get them to prescribe Omeprazole, problem gone!

  1. Gaviscon is your friend.
  2. Don't lie down after meals, it'll make it worse.
  3. You won't be pregnant for ever, although it might feel like that by the eighth month.

If you can get any I find Kendal mint cake is brilliant. I keep a bar in my pocket and nibble on it as I need to.

I also find that raising my left arm in the air, straight above my head and then pointing it slightly to the right helps (you don't need to lean over all the way) as it raises your stomach away from the baby and eases the pressure on it. It's a great trick for all sorts of things, if the baby is putting pressure on your ribs/ diaphragm it can lift them away from baby.

Gaviscon before and after meals, possibly even during. Get the double strength stuff and get it on prescription.

I'm also a veggie so can understand. I'm 28 weeks now and have been having bad heartburn for the last couple of weeks.
I agree.....Gaviscon is amazing. Definitely get it on prescription, it really does work. Or even try having a polo or mint after dinner, I find that helps too.

I'm 36 weeks, and was having unbearable heartburn and reflux all day & night. Gaviscon didn't touch it. Gp prescribed omeprazole. One a day. No heartburn since I've been taking it AT ALL!! Don't just struggle on!!

If gaviscon doesn't cut it you need to get to the docs for something stronger. I was on Ranitidine and it sorted it overnight - one pill a day and it stops acid productions. Literally a god send!

definitely get to the Drs and ask for Ranitidine, I was suffering terribly even getting it after drinking WATER, and I was so miserable, feel like a new woman since having these tablets!

Thanks all I got a prescription for ranitidine but dr said I couldnt have the omprazole not sure why . She said that although the manufacturer say ranitidine was not recommended in pregnancy it is safe to use as far as they know- have you had any issues with these tablets?

Wishful I think that's the case with lots of medicines simply because they haven't tested them in that way - however with something like acid production it has no link to the pregnancy so doctors can say quite confidently it's safe to use.

As I mentioned it was great for me, I couldn't eat or sleep as my heatburn was so painful but Ranitidine cured it completely. No side effects at all and my son is now 2 and born super healthy :) starting to get it again this pregnancy and would have no hesitation of using if again. Hope it works as well for you!
