I've not heard of these. As far as I know you cannot know whether a foetus is male or female prior to a 18w+ scan without obtaining actual genetic material (as through an amnio or cvs). So I'm going to guess that any type of home test for gender does not work (any result will just be a randomised guess that will be accurate in 50% of cases).

I read somewhere that the company in England that used to sell them, no longer does due to unreliable results. To get reliable resulta they discovered the test needed to be carried out under lab type conditions. i.e. living in a male household could falsely make the test come back as you were expecting a boy, even if it was a girl.

Just checked online apparently the company claim 80% accuracy but health professionals are sceptic .

I suppose my suspicion with these things is that is they really worked, they'd charge a fortune for them. So I suspect they're just a bit of fun.

You can determine the gender of a baby from 16 weeks - the private clinic we're having our scan done at will test from that time period. They suggest it's more accurate from 18 weeks on though but have a 99.3% success rate at 16 weeks.

I read up on them in the early days but couldn't find any 'real' evidence to say they were reliable, the only people claiming they were any good were the people selling them.

All the Old Wives tales, the chinese gender predictor and all my night time dreams told me boy but the private gender scan and 20 week anomaly scan shows a girl Smile
