Please tell me honestly about your exercise routine at 28+ weeks - I feel awful:-((22 Posts)
It's all I can do to get through work and my motivation to walk and exercise after work has gone.
I'm lucky if I can manage 2 x 30 min walk a week.
Please tell me what you are doing so as I can compare.
Will my exercise mojo return after the baby comes?
Walking upstairs and getting out of breath .
Seriously? I feel incredibly guilty at how little I am doing. Don't mention the forlorn looks the dog is giving me
I went from spinning 5 days a week to 3 in my 2nd trimester and then nothing by 28 weeks. Now ds is 15 months old and I cycle to and from work everyday, have been for the last6 months (no time for the gym) relax and congratulations!
For me my back pain is bad I can only stand walk for 15 minutes. Physio told me to avoid walking!
So if I'm not exercising the way I usually do does this mean I will pile on lots of extra weight?
Sorry to hear about your back pain wheels. I don't have that excuse, I'm just feeling lacking in energy.
With my first pregnancy I would walk about 2 hours daily, but my work schedule allowed for that.
This time round, I had ds to take care of, so a toddler paced walk to the park plus perhaps swimming 2x a week.
For me once the baby was born there was nothing better than wrapping up and going out for a nice long walk with the baby in the sling.
Don't punish yourself if you don't feel up to it, listen to your body.
Exercise. What's that? I'm 34 weeks, swim when i can, do the school run and that's about it. I am suffering with pgp terribly and i do plan on walking lots when baby arrives but for now am enjoying being a bit lazy.
Don't be too hard on yourself.
Hi pinkflipflop. I am very very early days but have bought a book a on exercising during and post pg. I am finding it useful so far as it is all simple stuff you can do with just light hand weights. Am doing it in the kitchen! Can't speak for later on in pg but the exercises are modified for later on and it says to take it as it comes on tired or sick days but just do what you can, aiming for 3 days a week.
I am completely wrecked and run down at the moment so yes I am afraid that I am getting worn out walking up the stairs, it actually hurts and I ache all over. Normally I am pretty active and walk everywhere. I have two other children and find it exhausting. Not helping either that I am getting very little sleep.
I am sure I will (fingers crossed) be back to my usual active self once the baby is born.
I think that you just have to accept that some days you will feel like doing little and others you will be able to do more, just go with how you feel. Please don't be hard on yourself. Are you working FT? That in itself can be tiring.
28 weeks - doing no exercise apart from walking around the supermarket occasionally. I'm tired enough from my job (teacher, part time, I sigh every time a kid needs help and I have to walk across the classroom!) without adding to it.
With DD I did very little. I knew that all the puffing up and down stairs, exhaustion and lack of energy in 3rd trimester was perfectly normal. Its important to listen to your body. You gain weight during pgcy anyway which is why mws no longer routinely weigh you: baby adds weight, the placenta adds weight, amniotic fluid adds weight and then theres other bits that dont help like water retention and constipation.
Pregnancy puts strain on your body and while its good to go for a walk when you feel like it, pushing yourself to do more than you feel you can/able to is not good. You need to listen to your body and allow it the rest to get on with growing a baby!! Its far more important to make sure you eat healthily, get some fresh air everyday and are feeling well in yourself. Once the baby is out and those first 6-8weeks have passed your weight will begin to adjust back. Mine did with breastfeeding and resuming normal exercise - a walk everyday at comfortable pace and lugging things up stairs to the flat.
This time round I am having to race after a toddler and its really putting a strain on me. Im a single mum so dont get a "break" and have been quite ill a few times after pushing myself to do more than I felt I could.
Listen to your body, enjoy this time to relax, rest and watch a life grow inside you. All the other worries can come later
26+6 and all I'm currently doing is walking the dogs each day. I'm normally a real exercise freak and I think the lack of it is starting to get me down a bit. I've decided to try and go back and at least do something, otherwise I think my mental health will suffer! So will be attempting a body pump class tonight, zumba tomorrow and perhaps a little swim on the weekend.
For all 3 of my pregnancies I have done no formal exercise. That said, I don't have a car, walk everywhere (including uphill to get home which nearly kills me every time!) and this time have two preschoolers to run around after.
I was in really good shape before I got pregnant with DD (DC1) and your body remembers so its easier to get back to where you were before.
TBH I've never fully returned to exercising (age gap very small with my 3) but just walking around with a pushchair (double in my case) and breast feeding helped the weight drop off.
I would just listen to your body. If you're sleeping lots in the evening it's because you need to.
As long as you aren't eating for two literally you shouldn't put on too much weight, although I'm not too worried about that either - reflux is putting me off most unhealthy foods!
I'm nearly 29 weeks.
I do as little as possible. Walking to the shop and picking the dc up from school is about my limit.
This is my fourth baby and I've always been lazy exersize wise, had easy labours and quick recoveries so I am not to worried about lack of exersize
Relax! I was a five/six days a week exerciser with DD1, went to nothing by 20 weeks because I was so exhausted. I did pile the weight on, but I did love my exercise even more after she was born - I jogged with the pram and went running after putting her to bed - went back to spinning and 10k runs when I went back to work and had more time (when she was 12MO) . I'm missing it at the moment as I had a CVS (am pg with no2) and have to rest for a week - or two. Just enjoy - you'll do what you can when you can!
Pinkflipflop I feel the same as you. This is my second pregnancy and I'm 13w2d. I was doing a lot of exercise beforehand. I did loads of Zumba and other classes and I intended to continue throughout this pregnancy but my instructor didn't feel comfortable with me going to classes so I've not done much for a couple of months now. Already I'm finding I get out of breath very easily. Im going to start walking regularly now though, especially as I have a 3yo to keep occupied. I think if you go for a couple of little walks you'll feel much better but don't stress too much!
Pinkflipflop found that spin teachers didn't want me in the class. I've been going to my gym for years and know all the teachers well, they've all had babies too. It wasn't the intensity of the class, as you can take it down (unlike Zumba really) but the fact that your pelvis constantly bumps on the seat, even if you are sitting down. So for that reason I'm giving it a miss, I think it's always best to listen to the teachers! Especially ones that have had babies themselves.
30w here, went to yoga for first time last week. Other than that only exercise is 2x15 min walks for school run
Similar last pregnancy (but without school run) gained about 2.5 stones but lost it all and more within 3 months! So I'm not worrying about it too much.
