Pregnancy

12wks or 13wks to tell people

When do people normally share the news they are expecting - not sure when the 'safer' end of the first trimester is thought to be? Also a bit confused about being 'in week x' vs 'at end of week x' for calculating.

I'd rather err on the side of caution but will hit '12 wks day 4' according to my phone app (?) on Xmas eve according to my app and will see both sides of the family at that point. Not drinking will be a total giveaway and I'd guess I'll be showing by then?! so hiding it may be tricky anyway if all goes smoothly until then.

But I really don't want to share the news if this pg then doesn't go to term. Large family, no one keeps secrets, some would be judgemental and hint that this happened as we are 30s not 20s and I'm a really private person (as is DH).

Any thoughts much appreciated.

After the first scan- congratulations! Christmas sounds like a perfect time to share the news.

I think people usually tell after the first scan, the 12/13 week thing being irrelevant.

Thanks wonderful mumsnet people! This forum is great, especially in the early secret bit.
