Hi All,

I was 5 weeks and 2 days yesterday and start getting cramping and heavy spotting for half an hour last night. Very light spotting all afternoon today but no cramping. Calling my gp in the morning but just wondered if anyone else had experienced this, what the outcome was and the reason it happens?

Other than swollen boobs, feel very not pregnant and bit flat today.

First as you can tell. Excuse the naivety.

X

Both things can be normal at this point or could lead to a MC. FX for the former, apparently 70% of women bleed at some point in the pregnancy and cramps can be your uterus stretching.

Try and stay calm and positive, you could try and push for an EPU referral and a scan, but it is probably too early to see a HB.

Good luck and FX.

Bleeding is very common in early pregnancy, especially around the time your period would otherwise have been due. Stretching cramps are also normal.

It isn't possible to say either way what the outcome will be, but fingers crossed all is well. The GP will probably tell you to sit tight and wait and see if the bleeding gets worse, as it is a little early to go for a viability scan. At 7-8 weeks there will definitely be a heart beat if all is well.

Hello,

Stopping and cramping in weeks 4 and 5 are more common then you may think it is normally the embryo implanting in to the wall of your womb this may cause cramping and spotting.

Another thing is as your uterus grows you can experience cramping.

I am 6wks and 1 and I have had cramping for the last week every time I need to have a bowel movement but I have had no spotting yet.

Sex can cause spotting as that area is more sensitive or even thrust can cause spotting.

The best thing to do is contact your GP if you are worried!!! They will put your mind at ease!!

Don't know if this is helpful but hope it is. All the best XxX

I was a bit worried about cramping a few weeks ago. The midwife said that all was fine and normal. She said that random cramping is the uterus stretching. It's when the cramping is repeated and regular (think labour contractions) that it becomes cause for concern.

They may send you for a scan, I had one due to the same reason at 5.1 thought i was 6 weeks. We saw a heart beat and got a photo of baby it looked like a sperm hehe.

I miscarried within two weeks later but for me it was a 50/50 chance due to my little squid moving down and a bleed next to it. My bleeding got heavier though.

I've heard of many ladies on here say they have had positive outcomes... defiantly more positive than negative, keep me informed really hope its nothing sounds like its calming down :-).

It may well be implantation bleeding, I had a bit at 5 weeks and am now 22 weeks with a healthy baby. Cramps are very normal, especially in the first tri when your uterus is stretching, I always felt bruised and bloated. They shouldn't be very painful though, more like period pains.

Definitely call your gp but be prepared to be told to wait, quite often they don't do anything unless the bleeding is heavy accompanied with severe cramps, it sounds horrible but if it is a miscarriage (odds are in your favour that it wont be though) there isn't anything they can do, early mc's are usually due to foetal or chromosomal abnormalities and unfortunately some can't survive.

Thanks ladies, you are all really helping. Was reading various websites and you can convince yourself of anything! Reminded this weekend that children really are a flipping miracle. Have a good week all x
