When can you feel baby move from the 'outside'?

I'm 20+4 and have been feeling my baby move for a couple of weeks, my husband is desperate to feel her too but so far nothing and I wondered how far gone people were before the kicks could be felt externally.

I assume body fat has a bearing on it, I'm a size 14 so do have a bit of a belly but not a massive amount.

My OH felt my baby move from just over 19 weeks. I had to dig his hands right in though and I was still in my size 8s at the time.

I was a size 14-16 and hubby could feel kicking from about 20 weeks.I felt them from just before 19 weeks. Now at 27 weeks we sit and watch my belly jumping about or moving from one side to the other when the little bun is having a wriggle. If you have an anterior placenta it may take longer for him to feel the movements. Amazing times.

I think it depends on the husband! I'm 27+3 and DH only felt baby for the first time last night - despite the fact that I've been able to see my belly moving for at least a month now (as have others). I think he just wasn't sure what he was feeling, if that makes sense. Even last night I was having to tell him when it was a kick.

DH first felt it at 20+1, but 2 1/2 weeks later he can still only feel it faintly and usually asks whether that was what he thought it was.

My Dh couldn't feel anything until about 24 weeks. My placenta is anterior though, and he refuses to put any pressure at all on my belly when he's having a feel. He doesn't want to poke junior in the eye!

But now at 30 weeks he can even see my belly move. So it will come!

I'm 22 weeks and although H can see her kick it is still too early for him to really feel anything. It is obviously a very gentle 'flick', not strong enough to exert much pressure outside of me. I'm small - pre-pregnancy size 6-8, so I don't have much padding.

It depends, i can only feel my baby move when i put my hands on my tummy.

My mum felt kicks around 24w, it depends on the bump and baby Grin

He will soon see your belly move and hands and feet sticking out! Im 31w.

For me my DP first felt him at exactly your stage OP (between 20 and 21 weeks). I know because we went to see Batman the day it came out and the baby went crazy all the way through (I think because it was very loud) and I put DP's hand on my tummy during the film and that was the first time he felt him.

I started feeling him pretty early, about 12 weeks. But I was very thin at that stage as had lost a lot of weight throwing up!

With this baby DP could feel movements from 18 weeks. I was about a size 10 at that point.

Thanks everyone, after reading the replies I lay on the bed and arched my back to flatten out the fat Grin and am sure I felt her kick against my hand, I did press fairly firmly so I assume she felt me and kicked back, I can't be certain though because it was faint and things never feel the same if it's your own hand on your skin, so I'm going to try again later on with my husband and let him tell me if he feels her.

I'm a size 8/10 and felt baby move from the outside at 21.3 and then it took DP a few more days as he lacked the patience it takes to sit and wait for a kick!

Most beautiful feeling, felt such a connection to my child.

I'm 21+1 today and felt it 'outside' for the first time this evening. Typically when I told DH where to feel for it, it stopped. This one is obviously as much of a monkey as his/her big brother....

I'm 27 weeks and DP still hasn't felt anything.

I have an anterior placenta, and I was a size 12-14 before pregnancy.

I think I can feel kicks from the outside but it's hard to tell whether I'm imagining it because I can feel them from the inside, IYSWIM. DP says he can't feel anything, but a) he refuses to press very hard and b) he gets impatient and usually moves his hand away just before a big kick.
