Gigs + bump = a good idea?

I've always loved going to see bands and I figured just because I'm PG it shouldn't stop me. There are loads of gigs I've got tickets for this month and next but last week I went to the first one since I've been visibly PG. It started - wore my tight dress and someone even gave up their seat for me. Watched the support band and had a few sneaky sips of my DH's beer. But then the main band came on and they seemed SO MUCH louder. I suddenly panicked that it was too loud for my baby's newly formed ear drums. When DH asked if I was all right, I burst into tears saying I was deafening my baby Sad

Oh dear!

We ended up leaving after 3 songs because, although my DH wasn't quite as hormonal as me(!) this is our first and I guess it highlights how uncertain we are about, well, everything. Of course as soon as we got home we read online that sound is like hearing everything underwater for a baby in the womb and they're very protected. But I was so ready to sell or give up all my tickets - the first time I'd felt the protection instinct I guess.

I now feel much better after reading common sense from many moms-to-be who went to see bands while up to 8/9 months PG. So there's no way I'm giving up my tickets to see The Killers next month!!!!!! Grin

Anyone been in the same quandary? Would you go to a gig pregnant? Who's seeing what bands in the next few months?

I went to see Aerosmith while 17 weeks pregnant, I couldn't miss the chance Grin I can't see any reason for not going, other than the possibility of being shoved and jostled, so I'd book a seat rather than standing.

I went to see Foo Fighters at Milton Keynes Bowl last year and I was 24 weeks pregnant and sporting a huge bump.
It was brilliant but I travelled on a coach and was knackered when we got back home at 3am.Although it did get a bit scary when I got a bit too close to a mosh pit! Smile

I would keep going aslong as you feel comfortable, keep well hydrated and use it as excuse to sleep the next day.
It was worth every ache for me and Im convinced that ds loves Foo Fighters too!

When I was 6 months pg with DS we went to see the Levellers in Concorde 2 in Brighton. DH had contacted the merch guy beforehand and arranged for me to sit behind his table if neccessary. I ended up sitting at the back on a bar stool while DH was at the front. The only bit that got me were the strobe lights which triggered morning sickness.

I wish we had been to more gigs but have taken the DC's to festivals and DS went to his first gig at 8 weeks so I think we have instilled a love of live music in them anyway!!

I'd be more concerned about the standing than the noise!

Go for it 100%. You've got 18 years to go I worry (&the rest) so pace yourself.

I went to see Alkaline Trio 3 days before my due date!
Was fine, but the vibrations did set off a lot of Braxton Hicks.

I went to quite a few whilst pregnant, and once I got quite big just emailed the venue a week or so before, explained I weas pregnant and asked for them to reserve a seat for me (our usual venue had a few tables on a raised area at the back of the room) and each time they did (they got used to me in the end!) and even told the doormen that I didnt have to queue so I just walked in.

I also tried to get seated tickets where possible (each time having OH complaining that sitting down at gig wasnt 'right')

Neither of my children are deaf (unless im shouting them to get washed)

Sitting down is defo a good idea. I braved a "quieter" gig last week (Bastille at the Institute, Birmingham) which was fine but no seats so stood at the back. I was leaning against the bar by the end - totally knackered. Kept hydrated tho, so I reckon I'll be fine if sitting. We have seats for The Killers at the O2, altho I'll have to stop myself running to the stage to rip Brandon's clothes off LMAO!

Going to see TEED this week, think I'll book the next day off - 31 weeks & everything is getting really tiring!

AnnIonicIsoTronic "18 years+ of worry" - that reality is starting to dawn on me! I'll get the hang of it Wink

I'd love my little boy to be into music & going to gigs, or possibly playing them when he grows up, so I'm sure we'll be taking him to festivals etc - maybe with earplugs!!

I went to see My Bloody Valentine when I was pregnant. They have a notorious loud part of their concerts sometimes referred to as the 'Holocaust'. It was incredibly noisy. I remember the review in the Guardian was titled 'My bloody ears'.

I did go into labour 9 weeks early but, um, I wouldn't think it was related.
Ha! Sorry, maybe that isn't reassuring. They are probably a special case to be honest.

I did Pendulum at the Brighton Centre at 26 weeks pregnant. DH wouldn't let me dance in the crush at the front though Sad

Just wanted to say, just got back from seeing TEED at the Institute in B'ham and the staff got me a seat on an (almost) private balcony - me & the hub had the best seats in the house! Thoroughly enjoyed myself tonight & no worries at all! [hgrin]

Volume me too - my bloody valentine at the roundhouse. In fact I was standing near another pregnant woman. We both had or arms over our bumps (as if that would help) was it you?! Grin

went to a few and remember at Bjork being hit by a shockwave of noise and having a moment of panic.... DD gave me a good kicking from the womb when we saw sigur ros.

I have to admit to breathing a mini sigh of relief when the infant hearing tests all came back clear...

Have been to a couple of festivals and only problem has been standing and the toilets! am planning to go to levellers in 4 weeks (will be 36 weeks then). My OH is worried about the baby's musical tastes so is starting the education now!

I think so long as you have a seat relatively near the back you are ok! I did lots of gigs last time (none this time due to childcare issues!) and DD is definitely fine.

I went to a festival a couple of weeks after I found out I was pregnant. Now trying to find something to go to in the next couple of months (due in January) as who knows when I'll next be able to go to a gig and I'd like sprog to get a bit more in-womb gig experience.

I raved to Orbital in Manchester and Massive Attack in Leeds when pregnant with DS! It was totally brilliant and I'm sure it's why he loves music so much!!

I went to Blur at Hyde Park in the summer 2009 when I was...6 mths pg? It was great and I was pogo-ing around (well, as much as a pregnant woman can...) like a mad thing Grin.

AlreadyScone · 25/10/2012 19:58

yes do it. I went to loads of gigs and a festival when pg with DC1 because I reasoned that I might not get many chances once the baby was in my arms (and I was right - only been to about one gig a year over the last decade!)

Depends on type of gig. I'd say avoid the mosh pit and try to refrain from body surfing Grin.

After 7mths your likely to get very tired. Also be prepared for lots of bump barging and baby kicks.

Definitely go to gigs. Me and 21 wk bump were at the Scissors Sisters last night at the Roundhouse. Fantastic, although it's tiring standing. We've got Killers tickets too., so you might not be the only one there with a bump. I went to a few gigs when I was pg with DS and he's got hearing like Batfink Grin - can hear a packet of biscuits being opened from 2 miles away.
