Olbas oil on a tissue works well. Kept a clean one in my hand most of the time to help me breath. Hope you feel better soon!

Stuck with a horrible cold too, surviving on hot ribena - watching this thread with interest for more ideas.

Try a mug of hot water with a good squirt of lemon juice and a big spoonful of honey. I swear by it.

Sorry if this sounds gross, but snorting salt water up your nose (and spitting it out). Use boiled water, add salt and let it cool down. It's not very pleasant but can make a huge difference if you're bunged up.

Also steaming (not sure what the proper word for it is in English). Basically boil water, add to a big bowl, add a few drops of eucalyptus and then hang your head above the bowl and breathe in the steam for a few minutes (put a towel over your head to avoid the steam escaping). If you do this, and then do the salt water thing afterwards it'll make a big difference.

I've found in the last 12hrs the following has helped! Fresh air, steam, hot drinks, gargling with mouth wash (have really sore throat), karvol, paracetamol. Today I plan to eat hot spicy chicken soup, plenty of ginger!

Lemsip is ok isn't it? Just lemony paracetamol?

I had Night Nurse last time I was pregnant as it said on the box consult your Doctor if pregnant - which I took to mean ok to take if really suffering!

Lemsip, or at least the versions I have contain aspirin and a decongestant as well (and sometimes caffeine) so should be avoided.

I'm surviving on paracetamol and the occasional glorious cup of tea for my throat.

You can make your own lemsip,
Soluble paracetamol, hot water, lemon juice and honey.
(Just dont use premade cold & flu stuff as they contain other medication not just paracetamol)

And steaming, rinsing with saline solution, (or using saline spray) is ok.

I have a cold too, 39+4 and worried sick I'll be bringing my little girl into a world of horrible cold germs, desperately trying to get rid of it before anything happens, od'ing on vitamin c, hot showers, ribena and rest! Sad
