Pregnancy

would you do a yoga DVD if you've never really done yoga before?

I am accustomed to exercise as (pre-preg) I went 3+ times a week to the gym. I also walk a lot so I am generally fit.

My sister gave me a yoga for pregnancy DVD - Tara Lee? - and I really want to try it today.

Do you think it would be OK to try yoga as a novice, when I am 18 weeks pregnant? Obviously I would stop if I felt anything bad.

I have been doing Erin O'Brien's pregnancy fitness DVD and it is great but today I need to be calm and I fancy a stretch.

I would be worried about injury as you are unaccustomed to the moves so don't know what they should feel like and your ligaments are all softer and more stretchy due to the relaxin levels.

Oh, i hadn't thought of that... was thinking i might just be able to take it quite carefully the first time.

I'd definitely do it. Pregnancy yoga is gentle and isn't going to do you any harm whatsoever, especially if you've been exercising already.

I started my preg yoga class at 16 weeks, having been nowhere near a yoga class in ages, and I'm finding it absolutely invaluable. It's brilliant for stretching, easing aches and pains, working the pelvic floor, breathing- basically, it's great.

Taking up marathon running or mountain biking for the first time in pregnancy would be daft, but not pregnancy yoga- it's what it's designed for!

Let us know how it goes. I was thinking of getting one of these but wasn't sure if it's good or not.
