this may sound a stupid question but i am getting really confused...doesn't take much normally never mind being pregnant!!

As some of you will know i had some spotting on thursday nite nothing since but got an early scan on wednesday. according to doctor i will be almost 7 weeks, but i think i am only 5?? confused!! will they even see anything :(

Your due date is calculated from the first day of your last period, which is likely to be around 2 weeks before you actually conceived, if you ovulate around day 14, so that is why you are 2 weeks out.

TBH it could be 5 or 7, I thought I was certain of dates and then was told at 12 week scan I was 10 + 3. I'm now 17 weeks and everything is fine, but I would have thought something wrong if I had had an early scan. Just try and relax and not worry too much, ovulation and implantation takes a different amount of time for everything. So if you see a pole/hb/sac or just a sac don't worry too much, it doesn't necessarily mean anything, they will almost certainly bring you back in 2 weeks if it doesn't look 7 weeks IYSWIM.

The doctors always calculate based on a 28 day cycle. So if your cycle is say normally 35 days, you take a week off what the doctor said and that will be most likely what you can see. So if the doctor says. 7 weeks, with a 35 day cycle you would be 6 weeks, and with a 42 day cycle you would be 5 weeks. I think what I'm trying to say is that if you have a cycle longer than 28 days, or irregular, then if they tell you at the scan you are not as far along as the doctor thinks, it isn't necesarily cause for panic.

Aha, my lmp was 30th august too, I had a scan on friday because of bleeding, and all they could see was a 2mm empty sac, no "baby" or yolk sac yet. But I ov'ed late (cd 20/sept 18th) do you know when you may have ovulated? do you normally have long cycles?
