I'm 17 weeks tomorrow and today had spotting after a BM. MW says fine and not to worry, it went immediately and have had no pains or anything, please tell me reassuring stories of how normal that is.

My antenatal group have been lovely, thank you Marchers! And calmed me down a lot, but please share stories with me of how normal spotting is :)

I had it. It was caused by an Ectropion/cervical erosion. It's apparently where part of the inner cervix tissue grows on the outer side. A bit like having the inside of your lip on the outside of you mouth. The skin is delicate, and easily damaged. I have it currently, (not pg) and it can definitely be aggravated by BM or sex.

Can that just start to bleed? I have a cervical erosion and it bled back in May for about two weeks after some rather "active" sex. Seems like it would have bled before now, but what do I know? I hope it was that, I forgot to mention it to MW.

Yes. Mine bled when I was pg. Scared the life out of me. I would definitely get checked out though, just in case, although when mine bled, I rang the Dr, and she said that I should just sit tight until anything else happened! It's always good to tell someone though.

I spoke to MW straight away and she told me the same thing, unless there is more or pain, sit tight, feet up and don't worry.

Sundae - I had a bleed at 20 weeks & he's now upstairs in bed ;).

However my next pg recently ended at 12 weeks (v sad) but vvvvv different experience of bleeding from what you describe (1) because the 'bad bleed' was before 12 weeks and (2) because the bleeding carried on for days and resembled a period.

Pregnancy can be such a worry but - having experienced bleeding that ended fine and badly - your symptoms sound akin to my 'fine' bleed (tho I was obv bricking myself at the time, so hardly fine ;).

Btw you can ask for another scan if you wish. Very best of luck and keep us posted.

Thanks Train, got some brownish spotting today, very mildly, but aside from that all good. Think I have had some flutters, so that is good.

I am a bit scared of doing a poo now in case it happens again!

Sun - brown is good. Brown means old blood.
To reassure you having experienced seriously Bad Bleeding, the latter resembles a proper period.
Plus, no pain is a good thing too.
Don't be scared of going to the loo (though I understand this totally ;) - your body is intelligent enough to allow you to do poos and keep a baby. Just one thing - as I'm sure you know - just don't push super hard when on the loo - since that can perhaps strain things and is sometimes associated with (non dangerous) bleeds.
Ag, I used to think pregnancy was all about long baths and pampering hot chocolates. Mind you, maybe you can have some of them too... good luck! x

Hi Sun, are you sure the blood was vaginal-it could've been rectal...make sure you have plenty of fibre and fluids and exercise to avoid constipation Blush Good luck x
