Yay or nay? Worst cravings in the world for hash browns! I've not read that I can't have them but I want other opinions! X

ThunderboltKid Thu 27-Sep-12 08:10:44

[Hmm] what could possibly be in a hash brown that would make you think you couldn't eat it!?

ThunderboltKid Thu 27-Sep-12 08:11:09

That was meant to be hmm

Bloody hell! Can't pregnant women eat potato anymore??? confused

LauraPalmerPlusOne Thu 27-Sep-12 08:16:21

Why in the world could it be somehow risky for your pregnancy to eat hash browns or bacon?! Hash browns are potatoes (which are chopped, diced, or grated before cooking.) Bacon is cooked pig. It's perfectly fine to eat potatoes and cooked pig while you're pregnant.

There is so much scare-mongering when it comes to food 'advice' for pregnant women - when you actually look at what the real dangers are and statistical probability most of the warnings are offensive to our intelligence complete poppycock.

Enjoy your hash browns and bacon!

I had a lovely semi runny egg and bacon with mine and the little fella is two now and causing havoc. The other is kicking the hell out of me.

Hmm hash browns want some now with brown sauce. Or maybe a McDonald's sausage and mcmuffin meal with a huge hash brown grin

chezziejo Thu 27-Sep-12 08:17:29

Sausage and egg even. Tut.

PickleSarnie Thu 27-Sep-12 08:20:18

Only bad if you eat them whilst scuba diving.

ThreeWheelsGood Thu 27-Sep-12 08:21:47

This is bizarre - can you explain OP?

DontmindifIdo Thu 27-Sep-12 08:24:31

You can eat hash browns and bacon. If the hash browns are frozen, make sure they are properly cooked (as per any food stuffs really), and again, make sure the bacon is fresh and properly cooked.

With all foods, make sure they are fresh, don't eat meat that's 'on the turn', cook food properly, don't eat anywhere that looks like it might have dodgey hygiene, keep your kitchen as clean as possible.

You are slightly more at risk of food posioning than before, all the times in my life (not while pregnant, luckily) that I've got food posioning have been from foods that are officially on the 'safe' list but have been produced in a way with poor hygeine or were off.

I've had so many non-pregnant women tell me what I can and can't eat! But I'm terrible with food as it is and I was told yesterday that bacon and hash browns have too much fatty acids and crap in it!

I enjoyed them either way! I miss a lot of food like tuna and pineapple though sad

GrandPoohBah Thu 27-Sep-12 10:13:00

You can eat tuna and pineapple...

Only three tins a week of tuna, mind. In case you wanted more than that confused

You'd have to eat the cores of about 8 pineapples before they had any effect as far as inducing labour was concerned and to be honest, your tongue would have turned into one giant ulcer some time before that.

No, hash browns and bacon probably aren't the most nutritious foods, but there's nothing wrong with them other than that. I'm currently growing my 30wk bump on a diet of chocolate, cake and biscuits. She seems happy enough.

Christ on a bike.

sleepyhead Thu 27-Sep-12 12:02:50

Why can't you eat pineapple? confused

DolomitesDonkey Thu 27-Sep-12 12:05:59

What are you eating exactly? White bread and dust? confused

hmm Who is telling you this stuff??

They are crazy. So what if hash browns and bacon arent exactly the healthiest thing...Im sure you are eating a balanced diet and therefore it doesnt matter.

I usually eat really well. Fruit, veg, homecooked meals etc. But during this pregnancy I have been eating utter crap at times because thats all I feel like.

Tuna you do have to watch but as a pp said, three tins a week is fine and I doubt you want more than that anyway.

Go buy some hash browns, tuna and pineapple and enjoy smile

DolomitesDonkey Thu 27-Sep-12 12:21:25

But for the love of god, don't put the tuna and the pineapple on the pizza together because that is the very height of wrongness.

roundtable Thu 27-Sep-12 12:27:41

Someone's been having a laugh with you, I think.
Go on the nhs website for a list.

Congratulations op smile

Giddypants Thu 27-Sep-12 12:30:17

You can eat tuna, and pineapple, if you are having tuna stakes only 1 moderate size a week and 3 cans in one week.
If you can download the pregnanvy food no no app tells you exactly what you can eat

DontmindifIdo Thu 27-Sep-12 12:31:29

oh, I craved pineapple like mad when I pregnant with DS, you have to eat shedloads before it's an issue, so don't worry.

Hash browns are fine - you shouldn't eat lots of crappy foods, but a bit isn't a problem. Enjoy!

Badgerina Thu 27-Sep-12 12:54:48

Hash browns are clearly the most evil food in the universe. They will make your baby turn crusty and triangle. AVOID.

DolomitesDonkey Thu 27-Sep-12 13:01:10

Are you sure it's not the HASH content that's worrying you? My husband's granny is mad fer marijuana cherries.

CakeBump Thu 27-Sep-12 13:09:09

OP I think you need to Read a Book or something.

Or just have a look at some of the less mental threads on here.

Bacon??? Hash browns??? Have you been listening to your MIL again? smile

YoullLaughAboutItOneDay Thu 27-Sep-12 13:12:45

OP- try this link. There really is very little you need to avoid (I actually find even that list a bit prescriptive based on research I have done, but it's not going to hurt to follow it).

Marijuana cherries?? shock
