Hanging pictures!

DH and I are getting going on the nursery this week and have some pictures we want to hang (I'm getting stupidly excited about this - makes it all seem more real) - the thing is we live in an old property and a friend mentioned that lead paint or dust might be an issue in hammering picture hooks into the wall. The property was thoroughly overhauled before we moved in so I think the walls might have been re-plastered but not sure. Do you think it's okay for me to be around when the pictures are being done? Or am I best off going for a walk and getting DH to hoover up afterwards? It's a nice, sunny day here so no hardship I guess :) Sorry if this is a silly question!

Silly questions are fine on here, as far as I can tell!

I'm no paint expert, but I'd imagine that the small amounts of paint dust produced from hammering in a few nails would be really, really unlikely to get into your lungs. Unless you plan on standing very, very close and sucking in the dust?! Plus, the dust would mainly be from the wall itself rather than the paint. I believe lead based paint was pretty much phased out a long time ago, so it's also unlikely to be an issue in anywhere that had been decorated in modern times.

Enjoy doing up the nursery, it's more exciting than your non-pregnant self would realise!

I really really doubt this would be an issue as Wench says. But by all means use it as an excuse to let DH do the work Grin

Thank you both, think that as you suggest minipie I might get DH to do the bulk of the work in any case - I did put the changing table/chest of drawers together single handed so it's really only fair Grin

I find I am quite good at sitting in a chair and offering guidance on what needs doing Grin

Get hubble to plug the walks with electric drill first. Less chance of cracks with old plasterwork!

Then nice screws are in plugs go in and do nice hanging bit a end!
