How Common is it to Find Issues at 20w Scan?

Hi all,

I'm only 15w and am starting to get worked up about the 20w anomaly scan. I'm trying to find out what the chances are of everything being okay, but of course all I find is stuff where a problem has been found. I feel foolish for letting myself think about the baby for even a a second, as i know that there could be a problem. Blimey, I've got 5 weeks to go - how am I going to deal with the anxiety :-(

Mine is next week and I have started to feel anxious about it. I think that's normal.
I have no idea how common it is to find issues, but from what I have read, even if they do, majority of the time they will be able to deal with it after birth. They pick up even quite small issues on that scan it seems.
Also, bear in mind that looking on the internet for answers, you are searching a totally skewed sample. Most people who have no problems at all don't post their good news on the web. They only post if there is a problem and they are worried.
I had one day of feeling really anxious after some crazy horrible dreams, but then went for a run, did some yoga, went out with my mates etc etc and basically kept busy and I don't feel so anxious now. There's no point really as it won't change or influence the outcome next week.
You've got a while to go, so I would try and forget about it for a bit if I were you. Easier said that done though I know.
Don't you have your 16 week midwife appt next week? I heard the heartbeat at mine. That was reassuring. x

PollyIndia, thank you for responding - you're totally right. Most of the time I'm busy with work or generally getting on with things so I'm fine. Just occasionally it hits me and I think "this baby isn't necessarily coming, so don't get your hopes up".

I do have my 16 week appointment next Friday, so I'll try and talk to the midwife. The person I saw for booking wasn't very nice, but I think its supposed to be someone different this time, so I'm hoping things will be better.

I didn't know that you can hear the heartbeat during that appointment :-)

Best of luck with your scan next week.
