Pregnancy

2nd pregnancy different from 1st?

I am 5w pg with DC2 and although I thought I'd be more relaxed as it's second time round, I'm actually more nervous. I had a great first pregnancy, very easy and great birth resulting in healthy baby, so I'm comparing everything to that one already.
I'm sure that by now with DC1 I had sore boobs and nausea, and I have none of that now. Are all pregnancies different? Should I stop comparing the two?? Please advise (and calm me down...)
Thanks!

Congrats! I've only been pregnant once so can't say from personal experience, but I've heard so many people say that every pregnancy is different. Also I think morning sickness is usually worse the first time around, so I wouldn't worry if you don't get any or get less.

Hi Jessie
Congratulations :)
I'm pg withDC2 and it's been completely different. I had no symptoms with my DS, breezed through pregnancy and enjoyed every minute. This time i have nausea all day, sore boobs, tiredness, an aversion to smells (literally any smell is making me feel sick even nice ones like flowers and washing powder).
Every pregnancy is different, i'd relax and enjoy it. I'm feeling a little jealous that your not feeling any nausea lol.

My first pregnancy was fab, no sickness no sore boobs I was fit and healthy and worked until 10 days before DD was born.. I'm 33 weeks with DD2 and it's been hideous... Shocking sickness, boobs so sore I could hardly move my arms, I've had 4 x UTI's, developed SPD so bad I had to leave work at 31 weeks.. Totally different. Don't know if everyone is the same but there's definitely no more for me.. Hope you have a better time Smile

PS If you put "second pregnancy different" into the mumsnet search engine there are lots of relevant threads. I remember reading up on this when the morning sickness was so bad I thought I'd never have another one Grin

Thanks all - I did assume that was the case, but it's good to hear! I was looking at old diaries yesterday and I definitely had morning sickness at 6w with DC1 so maybe I've only got another week's grace... It's silly how you miss the not so nice symptoms!

Plunkett I had the smell thing with the first pregnancy - at one point I couldn't stand the smell of DH and he had to have a shower as soon as he came home from work...

I'm 15 weeks pregnant with baby number 2, and I have felt very different this time around. With DS I had horrible sickness all day for the first 12 weeks, even vomiting on occasion. Yuk. I also didn't worry all that much about the baby's health, and seemed to sail through the remainder of the pregnancy in a very carefree way.

This time around I've had NO sickness - yay! But my boobs had grown a cup size within the first 6 weeks, and I've been a bit of a worry wort. I was VERY nervous about the nuchal scan and blood test, even though I'm not in the high risk age group at all. I guess every pregnancy IS different Grin

I'll let my DH know he's not alone - I'm a Veggie and he ate meat last night and I couldn't stand the smell of him near me (that sounds so mean, I know).

I think having the symptoms is somehow reassuring, I remember worrying with DS because I wasn't feeling sick and Pg women are supposed to feel sick. In reality there's no rule book we just feel how we feel. Once you get a few weeks down the line and have a bump and can feel the flutters you'll love that you've been missing the 'not so nice' symptoms.

I'm 12 +1 with DC2 and completely agree with this. Sailed through first pregnancy, felt bit sick but was never actually sick, although had the birth from hell - 45 hours and everything going resulting in emergency c-section.
This time I've been feeling extremely ill from about 6 weeks, again never actually sick but constantly retching and surviving on salt and vinegar crisps. I've also felt very anxious and will not rest until my scan on Tuesday. Just praying all will be well and that there will be something on the screen. I didn't feel this way first time round but I think that's naivity. Since having DC1 one friend has had 3 mc and another has had 1. MW said with seconds it is completely natural to worry and feel anxious.

Jessie I could have written your post myself - second pregnancy, easy first pregnancy and birth, now 5+2, no nausea or sore boobs here either! Keep trying to convince myself I feel something other than knackered but really don't. Desperate for morning sickness to kick in so I at least feel pregnant! I think the first time I was scared of losing my baby, but think I am even more anxious now as I know what I would be losing if it all went wrong - if that makes sense?

Hi Kitty it makes perfect sense - I'm watching my DD playing with DH and realising what being pregnant 'means' much more this time - it's no longer an abstract idea.

Although since starting this thread yesterday I have started to feel a bit pukey... Stood at the sandwich counter in Tescos for about 10 minutes earlier thinking 'yuck, no....yuck, no....yuck,no...' tigers, I hope it doesn't get as bad as yours, poor you.
