When does the bump appear???

Hi everyone

I'm currently 12+5 with my first and just recovering from a hellish 5 weeks of morning sickness. Which lasted all bloody day and all bloody night! Was off work with it and as a result of all the sickyness my tummy feels very tender and swollen.

I was wondering when people start to get a baby bump?

I am a size 8/10 but have always had a wee tummy. People are starting to comment on my "cute little bump" but is it a bump?!? Or just my usual combined with swolleness from being ill?

I'm normally self conscious bout my body shape and this bump business is really taking up too many of my thoughts!

Thanks for any help :)

I find it happens overnight. For me, I just looked a bit 'thicker' around the middle until about 16 weeks when it became a definite bump. It was about the same time with both DCs IIRC

I'm 14 weeks with DC2 and I'm bloody huge! Started showing at 17 / 18 weeks with DD1

With DD1 my official pregnancy bump did not really appear until around the 6 month mark as used to have hardcore stomach muscles. Few weeks prior to that just looked like I was piling on the pounds.

Now pregnant with DC2 and bump has been evident from much earlier on - about 12-14 weeks although still had the annoying stage when not a proper bump and just look fat!

I've got a bump. I am 14 weeks. My stomach muscles have pushed out and filled in the bits by my hips which used to go in. It noticeably popped out a bit more overnight last night actually. Also it's bigger if I need the loo or have eaten - I am guessing there's not that room for stuff inside anymore and I am quite small so the only way is out!

I do look fat though, rather than pregnant. To people who don't know me anyway! I don't really mind I have to say. I have found (surprisingly) that I like being pregnant.

I am 29 weeks pg with DC1 and today was the first time someone I didn't know asked me when I was due. I was delighted as I have serious 'bump envy!Grin. Up until now I've just looked a bit plump around the middle.

Nobody could tell I was pregnant until about 30 weeks, i'm 31 weeks now and still if I wear the right clothes don't look pregnant.

I'm 15+1 with DC#1 and I definitely just look fatter (I was a size 14 to start with) so am hoping a bump might appear soon so that's it's more obvious that I'm pregnant and not just a big lard!

On my first pregnancy I didn't start showing until 6 months. I'm 16 weeks now and by the evening I definitely have a little bump. First thing in the morning though I don't look pregnant at all yet, just a little fat!

squidkid · 30/03/2012 12:45

I'm 14 and a half weeks and not showing yet. I'm about a size 8/10 too. In the evenings I have something that's a bit like a small bump but in the morning it's completely gone. I still pretty much fit in all my clothes. It's my first baby too and I do quite a lot of exercise/strength training which apparently sometimes means you show a bit later.

I'm 13 weeks and look fat and frumpy, and have done for weeks. Can't wait to have a bump if only to stop the "fat or pregnant?" looks I am invariably getting from strangers.

Completely depends on which pregnancy this is, OP. with my first, I didn't show until 4 or 5 months. I am currently 13 weeks in my 4th pregnancy, and look quite pregnant indeed. Love your bump!

Also depends on what clothes you wear!

I am size 8-10 I had my son at 26 weeks and never had a bump, seriously a week before there's a photo of me just looking like I had eaten a big dinner!

Does your size make a difference? I am small, so logically I think there is nowhere for it to go other than out. Or is everyone just different? I also do lots of exercise and have strong stomach muscles yet at only 14 weeks it's all definitely pushed out into a bump. I was trying to not really tell people yet too! Well, work people anyway

Size probably does make a difference, pollyindia. As in, if you're already a bit chubs (Blush) then a tubby tum doesn't stand out as much iykwim!

Also height must affect perception of the size of the bump...I'm quite short and produce big babies so by the time I reach the last trimester I look ready to burst with my massive bump.

Im 18 weeks and have a little bump. A stranger asked me when I was due today which made me :) as am very excited that it's noticeable to others now (had bump envy too!)

ballroompink · 30/03/2012 16:26

I just looked a bit bloated until about 20 weeks, then one slowly started to appear, until 24 weeks when it appeared literally overnight. I think your stomach muscles make a difference.

I'm 14.5 weeks and have been showing for about a week and a bit. I've had 6 comments over the past 2 days about my now getting bigger bump. I was an 8/10 (now in my bigger 12's) and have a definite bump shape now. If you didn't know it might look like I've been at the doughnuts and cakes but to those who know me it is a bump :)

I'm 15ish weeks and DH noticed a bump two weeks ago. Anyone who didn't know me would just think i'd had a burger though :)

i had have a small waist, so it's more obvious on me though.

IYSWIM!. i hope i dont show to early as ill just look like a podger!

I'm nearly 26 weeks with my first and in the last week or so have developed a proper bump rather than just looking a bit podgy. It's still not past my boobs tho which H says is the true test! Am a size 10-12.

I'm 15+2 and can't wait to start showing - I have put on about 4lb in total from eating more than usual (just can't seem to find a reason not to when I know I'll be getting bigger soon anyway...I am going to regret this later!) and just dying for the proper bump to show. I have in the past been asked three times when it's due when NOT pregnant so cannot wait to actually ENJOY that question!
