Nope. Birth Cert fine. Adults don't need passports, so I'm not sure why a child would.

The ILs have accounts set up for our two as well - they needed the birth certs but me and DH didn't have to sign anything.

You won't need to but I would anyway. A baby can travel on some airlines with a birthcert but Ryanair for example will only accept a passport. They last 3 years.

Well, it depends if you plan to fly with them. It's a lot of money to pay if you don't.

She won't be flying till next year we've got a luxury caravan booked for this summer as she will be so diddy!

I want to open her account ASAP tho so I'm glad I just need the birth certificate

Just to add that at some banks (possibly all) how it works is that you open the account in your name with her as the beneficiary. I know HSBC do this. You just need birth certificate and take 2xID/ proof of address for yourself as well if you're not a customer at that bank. HTH.

I have a 'joint' account with my DD - I am trustee for her acc so needed ID for me as I wasn't a customer & birth cert for her. If you get all the paperwork from your bank/building society you want to use, they usually list the ID etc you need to open it.

As a child's passport only lasts 5 years I would leave it as close as sensible to when you first intend to travel...
