Anyone with / had GD like to comment on whether this sounds like a pile of arse?

Was told last week by a consultant's sidekick (not sure what you call them) that continuous monitoring wirh a CTG can be unreliable. This as part of a 'discussion' where I was arguing my case against early induction and she was telling me basically my baby would be stillborn. I said I'd be happy to commit to daily monitoring instead but she said the CTGs were unreliable. What's the point of them then?!

She also came out with a couple of other things that made me very distrustful of the accuracy of her advice, but thought I'd see what the wider opinion was...

There is nothing in my notes btw that indicate I either need an early induction or am risking my baby's health at this point. My GD is diet controlled.
Thanks for any opinions... Smile

I had GD with dd3 and more than likely with dd2. Sadly dd2 was stillborn at 37 weeks in Dec 2010, they think I had undiagnosed GD. Dd3 is now 6 weeks old and I was induced at 34 weeks due to unstable diabetes.

I was on insulin from 13 weeks and had it all under control until around 31 weeks when things started to go downhill with me getting lots of hypos and having to stop the insulin. I had steroids given to me to mature the baby's lungs and had another episode just before 34 weeks when they said enough was enough and induced me.

I had weekly ctgs from early on due to my previous stillbirth and noone said anything about them being inaccurate at any point. I had amazing care with dd3, I changed hospitals from dd2 and am ever grateful that I did.

At it was dd3 was in scbu for almost 2 weeks and needed a fair bit of help at first but weighed a decent weight at 5lb 12. She's now 6 weeks and was 6lb 13 last week.

I personally wouldn't take any risks with GD but I'm aware my past influences my decisions. I think we were lucky to have such good care with dd3 or she might not be with us either.

Well after all the worry DD arrived on her own last night! Thanks for the reply anyway, and great to hear your good news after what must have been a terrible time.

I think that if you're happy to wait and have no indicators for early induction then wait.

What monitoring is it that the doctor said was unreliable? AFAIK CFM in labour hasn't been shown to improve outcomes for babies and mothers (yet intervention rates and CS rates increase when it is used) and I suppose that daily CTG monitoring can only give them a snapshot of what's happening at that time, so you don't know what's happening the rest of the time but then that doesn't take into account other ways of monitoring baby's wellbeing (maternal health and baby's movements throughout the day normally)

If you have to go back, I'd ask to speak to the consultant instead of a registrar or SHO - from what I've read on here (clearly, that's some indepth research by me Wink) you're more likely to be able to have a reasoned discussion with them than their junior.

What other gems did she come out with?
