implanon - overweight - pregnant?

Hi

I had the implanon in in June 2009 and was told nothing about it not lasting as long if I am overweight. I thought it would last until June this year. I have been having a good sex life with my partner and recently its been about 4-5 times a week. I have a 6 year old already. On the implanon I was having periods around every 3 to 4 weeks throughout being on it and often they lasted a week long and were very heavy. My last period was 13th - 20th February this year and was very heavy. I had a little bit of pinkish discharge a couple of weeks ago and thought I was starting my period again but then nothing came of it. In the last couple of weeks my abdomen has been feeling swollen and numbness inside (not to touch). Other than that nothing else. I had no sickness with my first child but the swollen numbness feeling I am getting now. I did 2 tesco pregnancy tests yesterday and both were negative.

Shall I do a clearblue one today? I cant wait, (impatient). Are the clearblue ones better?

No, they aren't especially "better" they are just more expensive and have the digital conception indicator.
You are highly unlikely to be pregnant if you are on long term contraception and have had two negative tests.
If you are worried you would be better off seeing a doctor about the swollen abdomen and explain your concerns. Perhaps take another preg test in a weeks time, but it doesn't need to be an expensive one. Poundland ones do exactly the same job.

But the implanon may not be working still as I'm overweight.

I doubt it, I expect the 3 years cover is probably the absolute minimum and it could work for longer. Unless you are quite severely obese (in which case it wouldn't have been a safe choice for you in the first place) you are probably fine. Where did you hear it is less effective if you are overweight?

That said, contraception failure can happen with any method and it is always ever so slightly possible that you can get pregnant.

I am 17 stone and 5 foot 6 (although am very overweight I'm stocky so I dont look as overweight as you might have thought.) I was 21 stone a year ago and was 16 stone when I had the implanon put in. I found out a few days ago by googling it (due to the swollen abdomen) that it is less likely to work for as long in overweight women.

I would like another baby. Partner would be happy for me to be pregnant but would prefer to wait a bit (he would prefer a baby born in the summer months - blokes!!!)
