Question about counting the kicks.

I am only 26 weeks, so I am not counting yet, but I wondered how you count. I don't know why I can't figure this out.

If the baby kicks five times in 2 minutes, I would assume that counts as one. ( right?) But how long do you wait before counting the next set?

No, that would count as five.

The general advice from midwives is get to know your baby's usual pattern. For example often I don't have much all afternoon, sometimes I don't notice any kicks in that time, but he is generally active for a good spell at some point between 8 and 10pm.

If you are getting 10 movements a day then you don't need to worry as a general rule.

I always took it to mean 10 separate moments in the day when there was physical activity. So a cluster of a few at once I took as one. Not sure if this is the official view. That said, I did find that I didn't need to consciously count kicks as I was very familiar with the usual pattern and any deviation was instantly noticeable. I suppose I was subconsciously keeping an eye out for the activities I knew to expect. hth

I dont get it either, i think like you if they kick a lot in a couple of minutes then that's one lot of them jiggling about so it's once!

My midwife told me ten a day but i think it's more important to know your baby

I'm 34+5 and my little girl has always pummelled me one day then had a very quiet day or 2 afterwards, sometimes i will only feel her twice but as long as she has a jiggly day the next day or day after i know she's ok x

It varies where you read. But the midwifes where i live say 10 movements a day
