Pregnant!!

Hi! I've just found out I'm pregnant (this will be my 2nd child). I'm just wondering if I need to make an appt with my GP or if I just go ahead and make the appointment with the midwife??? Also, when should I do this....I don't want to make the appointment too early! I had my son 6 years ago and can't remember all this and I know things have probably changed since then. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! xxx

You'll need to make an appt with your doctor to confirm the pregnancy (mine just said 'Congratulations' and that was it!), and that gets you in the system for MW appointments, etc. At least, that's how it was with my doctor's surgery. Maybe call the receptionists at yours and ask what the drill is. And congratulations!

I would say it varies from area to area whether they want you to see your GP or go straight to the mw or whatever.

Probably the best thing is to call the surgery and ask them what the procedure is? Normally the first booking in appt with the mw is about 8 weeks, but again this varies from area to area a bit.

Your doctors surgery receptionists should probably know the procedure in your area though.

Congratulations!

I got a BFP a few weeks ago - went into the doc last week and he's booking in my MW and scan appointments. He said I'll get the MW at about 8-10 weeks, and the scan at 12-14 weeks. Seems ages away as I'm only 7 at the moment and time is going slowly!

Thanks for all the helpful info and advice! I'll give my GP surgery a phone on Monday morning and find out what the procedure is. I'm a bit out of touch with all the practices and procedures so just wanted to make sure I was doing things things correctly....thanks again. :)

Just ask for an appointment with the midwife - tell the receptionist its for booking in so they know when to give you the appointment for.

No need to waste your time going to GP, who won't do much. They only like to see you because then they can claim money for your antenatal care (which the midwives do, not the GP!)

I rang surgery and was told I had to see the doctor before I could be booked with the midwife...there are such differences in care.
