Hi

IME this is totally normal. With both my pregnancies I didn't see mw until after 12 week scan. I did have a booking in apt with GP before that though. Have you had that?

I don't think there's much a mw can do before 12 weeks anyway...mine didn't listen to heartbeat until around 20 weeks & iirc most blood tests etc start at around 14-16 weeks.

You may be able to book a 'reassurance' scan at a local private clinic before Jan if you are concerned...I think most will scan from around 8/9 weeks.

Nor really because you need to be "booked in" by your midwife at least a couple of weeks before your scan, which should be around 12 weeks. I am not surprised by the delay given annual leave around the Xmas hols etc. I would just try to insist (now) you are given a scan appointment for the same week- you need to get on their list now if poss.

If it helps midwives don't actually check much physically in the first appt (blood pressure & blood tests for anaemia I think), it is mostly questions about your medical history which will determine if you'll be treated by midwives or consultants.

Congratulations! Very common not to have first booking in appointment till around 11-12 weeks and at my hospital it is often combined with the 12 week scan. It is a long appointment 2 hours or so as they do scan, take all your medical history, blood and urine tests, see doctor etc etc. Even after 12 weeks it is then common only to have monthly checks until the last 4-6 weeks, unless you or baby have other medical issues.

In the meantime rest, eat healthy and hopefully avoid morning sickness etc etc and enjoy being pregnant : )

With this pregnancy I just left a note a my GP's reception desk asking them to send a referral letter to the local hospital maternity unit and that the date of my LMP was x so I had calculated my due date to be y. It was around Easter time this year and I couldn't get an appointment before we went on holiday as they were all booked and they had lots of closed days over Easter so it would have been nearly 3 weeks later that I would have seen my GP. My GP sent off the letter and all the rest of my communication has been with the ante-natal clinic, as they arrange all dates for scans, appointments etc. COuld you do something like this with your GP if you can't get in to see them?
