When did you first feel movement? Need a bit of reassurance...

I'm 18 weeks with my first and I told myself I wasn't going to worry about this. However, over the last week or so everyone has been asking me if I've felt movement yet, and then looking a bit Hmm when I say no (these are people who have mostly had babies quite recently).

I definitely haven't had any flutters - I sometimes get bubbles of wind and think 'is this it?' but then it becomes clear that it was in fact wind on the way out, iykwim!

When did you first have definite movement? Had a scan about a week ago and baby was busting some serious moves then, but when should I expect to feel them?

Thanks!! Grin

I started thinking I was feeling movements at around this time but it was actually more wishful thinking on my part (partly due to the questions like you describe).

I think the first proper movements I felt were coming up to the 20 week mark. I've got an anterior placenta so I think that had a bit to do with as well as the fact that this pregnancy is my first (apparently you feel them sooner with subsequent pregnancies).

Hope this has reassured you somewhat! Smile

I'm 21 weeks with my first and only just starting to feel what I think might be movements in the last couple of days. Before that nothing and I'm still not 100% sure what I feel is baby.

I think lots of things can affect when you feel movement, e.g. position of placenta or baby

Was starting to get a bit worried about it myself so know how you feel :)

About 20 weeks I think both times for me. And you will definitely know when its a movement, I found it quite freaky at first but then you get used to it and its lovely!

with ds1 i felt movement around 20 weeks.

ds2 i had an anterior placenta like scared above, and didn't feel a thing until way after that, i think it was around 25 weeks or so

so don't worry!

It was about 18 weeks for me and it felt like a twitch (like a twitch in your eye IYKWIM) but in your low stomach (very low down). At first I didn't know what it was, but then realised it was the baby. DH put his head on my tummy that night and felt a twitch too so then we both realised it was the baby moving.

It was just after 20 weeks for me, when I went for my 20-week scan (I'm 36+4 now). The sonographer asked if I'd felt any movement, I sulkily said "No", and the baby moved right on cue! The scan showed her wriggling and tumbling around quite happily, behind the cushion of the anterior placenta. Until then, I'd had the same kind of questions and funny looks, and started to brace myself for finding out something was wrong. Actually, even after 20 weeks I didn't feel much for a few more weeks - it was only after about 24 weeks onwards that I started to notice a pattern and more definite movement.

Thanks all - my placenta is posteria apparently so shouldn't muffle them.

Come on bub, kick for mama! Wink

I was around 20 weeks (first pregnancy + anterior placenta) and even then I wasn't 100% sure for a week or two. I did get to hear the heartbeat at the midwife's around 16 weeks though, which was really reassuring.

I'm 21+4 and 'think' I can feel movement, it feels a bit like heaviness, always low down, and because so many people say you'll know for definite when you feel it I'm not certain it is movement.

Well gone 20 weeks in both pregnancies for me.

The thing is, when they are tiny there is so much fluid in there that tummy rumblings feel very similar! I was a bit anxious this time round as thought I would recognise it when it happened but clearly not!

I think I was about 24 weeks when I was sure it was baby and not wind.

I felt 'movement' at 18 weeks. But it was more like bubbles being blown up and then popping. There was no pattern to it and hard to notice. 21 weeks I really noticed lil prods and pokes and now at 22 weeks it's really noticeable and strong enough for dh to feel

Oh and this Is my 1st

I was very early for a DC1, with anterior placenta at 12wks, but! But!!!! It felt like bubble gum popping...basically a sharp pop/boot very very low down...nothing like people described I'd feel. It won't be long 'til you feel like you're re-creating a scene from alien...

To reassure you I only started to feel definite movement at 22 weeks (its my first too) and I was worried like you, looking back I had felt some movement at about 20 weeks, but didn't think it was baby. Now I'm nearly 25 weeks now and it's very regularly, wriggly, definite movement, so it all changes very quickly.

21 / 22 weeks with both DCs. They were perfectly active after that, we just had a calm start.

I first felt movements right above my pubic bone. I didn't expect them to be so low down as my bump goes right to my belly (obvs), but that's pretty much where baby really is. Mine started as the bubble popping/wind sensation about 17 weeks (this is #2) and only properly definite baby movements about 20 weeks, just like everyone else.

IMO as with most things related to pregnancy, you will meet a lot of people who speak bolleaux :) either because they are remembering incorrectly in their milky/competitive haze or they just generally bull shit [hshock]

19+3, posterior placenta.

My first movements were actually little aches, little bursts of very mildly achey pain. I assumed it was ligaments or something but at the 20 week scan I noticed the little aches were coinciding with movements! So with that hindsight knowledge ir was about 19 weeks, 19+3 for my very first mini kick.

I didn't feel anything till I was 22 weeks and even after that he wasnt Much Of a kicker. Just a few wriggles here and there. People used to worry me and say that he should be elbowing be and my belly should be moving loads, it never did but he's 9 months old now and certainly makes up for it now. Don't worry x

Midwife asked me if I'd felt movement at my 16 week appt - when I said I wasn't sure, she said, 'don't worry, most people don't until 22 weeks'.

My midwife said the same beginner that it's normal not to feel anything until 22-23 weeks

Phew! That really does make me feel better - will set my sights on about 22 weeks then. Just now another person at work asked me so I was able to confidently say 'not yet, it'll be another few weeks', rather than giving an apologetic and slightly worried 'no'!

Yep totally no need to worry (although I know that can be difficult!) I was really worried that i hadn't felt any kicks, especially as my friends who are only a few weeks ahead of me have felt proper kicking for a while but I was also worried as I'd been really sick with hyperemisis that I'd malnourished my baby & what if he/she had stopped growing (the crazy things that go through our minds!). But I had a scan at 20w+6 and got to see (to my heart's relief!) a very active baby all healthy & perfect. My placenta is anterior facing too - I think this has a lot to do with it. Am 21+6 now and for the last three days baby has been kicking my bladder constantly so don't worry, itcwill happen. Also pay no mind if you've got other people (regardless of whether they've had kids or not) saying silly things like "ooh - you're bumps very small - are you eating enough?" (gee thanks) or too big or whatever. You are the perfect size for you & unless they are a sonographer, a midwife or an OBGYN I would not take any notice of such comments.
