Pregnancy

8 weeks, bleeding and panicking!

This is my first pregnancy and I have had bleeding today. Started as stopping but getting heavier. VERY scared and wondered what people think. I have been to the out of hours surgery at a & e tonight but doctor basically said it can only be a miscarriage or an ecptopic pregnancy but I have heard bleeding can be caused by other things. Doctor was not helpful but did book me in for a scan on Friday! Does anyone have any advise so I can stay sane until then?!?

So sorry you are going through this :(

No advice on how to stay sane, I would personally go for a private scan first thing tomorrow as ectopic can be potentially life threatening, though at 8 weeks you would usually know if it was ectopic by your symptoms (i.e. internal bleeding). Good luck for Friday if you can't manage to get a scan sooner.

I'm also sorry this is happening for you Sad but don't lose hope just yet, wait for the scan on Friday x Are you having any period type pain/ cramping Annie?

It isn't always a miscarriage, some people do bleed and have healthy babies.
My friend bled every month for 9 months and she had a healthy baby. I bled at that sort of time and had a lovely 10lb dd! Depends how heavy it is and whether there are clots. If you see a large clot it is probably a miscarriage unfortunately.

Thank you for your support guys! I appreciate any help! I have what can probably be described as mild period pain but I expected a miscarriage to have worse pain. No clots yet so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks anxious elephant, that does make me feel better! The doctor just looked at me like I was crazy when I asked him if it could be normal. He said "your pregnant, of course bleeding is not normal!"

I bled with my first 2 pregnancies (have 3dc and pg again) it was worst with dc1 but the trigger was usually having sex (which I gave up on once I mace the connection)

The first time it happened I totally flooded, even ended up in hospital for the night because of how heavy the bleeding was. I was sure no baby could have survived it but when they scanned me the next day you could see the little heart beating away :)

I was second the advice of getting a private scan if possible!

How terrible that you are going through this.

I really can't believe that a trained medical doctor would have allowed you to go home with a possible ectopic pregnancy. This sort of condition is life threatening! You don't mention in your post that you are having any pain, but if you are go back to the hospital immediately or book yourself in for an early scan.

Unfortunately bleeding in pregnancy can really go either way. It can be harmless as happenned with scared or it can be not such good news as happenned in my case.

Were I in your shoes I would book myself in for a private scan as soon as possible.

Fingers crossed for good news.

Can you call you local Early Pregnancy Unit? Your doctor sounds less than helpful. Most EPUs let you self refer for bleeding I think. I had spotting last week, at 7 weeks, and my local EPU were lovely on the phone and called me in for a scan. They said you should always get it checked out. Sending you many mny good wishes.

Oh sorry, I somehow missed that you have a Friday scan booked. Perhaps they can't see you sooner, but I'd still ring the EPU as they are experts in talking to women in this situation.

I've had bleeding in both my pg the first ended in MC i'm now 25 weeks with this one. With my first i had heavy red blood but no pain or clots then MC with this one was only a tiny amount of blood and things are fine.

If i was you i would go straight to A&E to see someone i've done it both times they will test your urine and take ur BP have a feel at your belly and then refer your for a scan that day if possible but if not the next day.

I have bled at 9 weeks through to 12 weeks, mainly brown and light but I did have one or two heavier days when it was red to start with, I also had pain in my stomach, mine was a cervical bleed - I was doing too much so the abrasion wasnt healing, took a week off work and Im grand again now. Fingers crossed for you that it turns out to be some thing simple :)

So sorry to hear this! I would say Keep an open mind!
I had a bit of spotting at 1st with this one (my second) which i freaked out and went straight to the early pregnancy ward! They said go home as there is nothing they can do. When got home i went to the toilet and i was literally sitting on the loo for half an hour heavy beeding! I was terrified! I rung the hospital and they said put a pad in and if it is full in half an hour come back in. So i put in a pad and it took a while to fill up .. i think i bled most of it on the loo! Anyway! eventually it stopped the next day after spotting. Then once a week after that for around 4 weeks i had bleeding (not as much) but still scary as hell! I am now 15 weeks and havnt had bleeding in a while (touch wood and fingers crossed) I since have had my scan and all is good =) touch wood again!
I hope you are ok and keep an open mind! x

Morning ladies

I went to see my gp. He felt my stomach where the pain was and sent me straight to the hospital. Waited in a and e for 3 hours then finally attempted to women's health. That was Monday. I am still here. When I came in had ultra sound and saw sack. They took blood. Following day they did an iv scan and couldn't see foetal pole. Lady doing scan said that is common in early pregnancy but doctor said its failing and made me stay in until next blood was due. Pain changed that night from lower right side to terrible cramp and I started passing more blood with a bit of clotting. Thinking that is it now. They took my hcg levels yesterday though and they have only dropped a little bit. So they kept me in last night and I am due to see the consultant this morning. In a lot of pain, physically and mentally.
