Hyperemesis in first pregnancy - no symptoms (yet) in second?

I had hyperemesis in my first pregnancy, to the extent that I was signed off sick from 14 weeks and didn't go back to work until after my maternity leave ended.

I am now nearly 11 weeks pregnant with our second baby - DS is nearly 4 and it has taken me until now to be willing to have another. I have been sick only once, and been nauseous a fair few times, but I would consider this to be normal. Nowhere near the hyperemesis that I had first time.

So my question is - is it possible to not have hyperemesis in a second or subsequent pregnancy? Or is it 'just round the corner'? I am fervently hoping that everything is ok as my 12 week scan is 10 days off.

Seems like each pregnancy differs massively. I was chattin to my mum yday n although I've had nausea I've not had sickness (this is my first). My mum said wen she was expecting me she had 9 months of sickness and something as simple as boiling the kettle would set her off. But then with my younger sister she could count on one hand the number of times she was actually sick

Getting to 11 weeks looks very promising, especially since you have the nausea but it hasn't escalated.

I had hyperemesis in my first pregnancy - hospitalised, on a drip etc. Second time round I reached 7 or 8 weeks with no symptoms and I thought I was in the clear but then it struck. I was extremely ill until 13 weeks when it suddenly went again.

Until my hyperemesis struck the second time I had no nausea at all, just a massive craving or cheese Hmm

Best of luck with the pregnancy.

Fingers crossed it stays that way for you! I have the opposite, fine for 1st preg, feeling nasty with the second.

I think sickness etc is the body's reaction to the preg hormones so it will vary.
