Pregnancy

What the actual hell is happening to me right now?

Have had a relatively symptomless pregnancy, sickness for first trimester, great second trimester, now 30 weeks and feeling relatively ok. However, the following things have been happening over the past two days.

Eyesight has gone really quite bad - am a little short sighted, so need specks for driving in dusk/dark. Sometimes use them at the cinema but can get by without them. Since being pregant, have worn them a little more often, but the last two days, have not had them off my face. At the point where I need them even to see this correctly.
Ribs have been hurting on and off for the last week or so, but not sure if it's feet in them or not
Bad back pains all up and down my back and shoulders over the last 5/6 hours along with period like pains on and off the last few days.
Felt really tense and pissed off at work today, the slightest thing was making me very angry.
About a hour ago, I had a really really bad pain shoot through my right side, sort of where my ovaries are.
I felt sick from the pain and quite nauseus so have had myself a bath. Feel a bit panicked, to be honest.

Have I just had a fresh batch of pregnancy hormones, just getting a months worth of symptoms in one go, or should I be concerned?

Help!!

Eyesight problems and epigastric pain (top of bump/ribs) are signs of a couple of things, most notably preeclampsia.

When was your bp and urine last checked?

It might not be that, might be nothing, could easily be a uti too but if I were you I'd ring your medicom and have a chat to a midwife. Tell them all of your symptoms.

I don't know what all these symptoms collectively point to but I would call the midwife and get checked out if I were you.

I saw a program about a pregnant lady who's eyesight went funny and she ended up having pre-eclampsia (sp?). Not saying you have that but always good to get any worrying syphons checked out.

Syphons?! Symptoms..

Link to symptoms of pre-eclampsia here.

NHS advice on page says to seek medical advice immediately if you have any of the symptoms, which you do.

Phone NHS Direct on 0845 4647 they will get someone to phone you back with advice on what to do.

Alternatively call the antenatal or labour ward (who will be open at this time) and ask midwife on duty what to do. They will not mind you phoning, better you get it checked out than wait.

I thin you should pop down to your maternity ward now or a and e just to get checked out, sure it's nothing but best to be sure

Call midwife unit now. PE can be very serious. See if you can go in for a BP and urine check and get baby's heart rate checked. I had PE with no symptoms at first apart from mild chest pain and mild headache, but DD's heart rate was too fast. 1 hr later I had my first seizure then protein showed up.
Mine was an extreme case, but you should get some reassurance. Let us know how you get on.

Hello people, I am still here. I did the dreaded google last night on PE, as although I have some knowledge of it, its basic. Got totally freaked and upset by what I was reading, as it really is too early for the baby to arrive and seems thats the only 'cure'. DH told me to stop googling, calmed me right down and I managed to get some sleep. Having some breakfast now, and then Im going to pop up to the hospital and get checked out.

Thank you all for being on hand last night and this morning, will let you know after work tonight how I got on Smile

Hi, have been to see the MWs at the local hospital, who gave me an MOT. Tested urine (no protein) took BP (great) and put me on a trace for 25 mins which read fine.

DH told the MW that I had googled, bloody traitor Angry

Am at work, still feeling nauseous and am having some twinges, but not really pains, and don't really feel 'ill' plus job is pretty low maintenance, so more stress to arrange cover than to sit here and mumsnet and drink tea work.

Its all very odd, maybe Braxton Hicks? Suppose I best get used to baby prepping itself for labour and I wont feel as symptom-less as I have been.

Hi OP, I'm 30 weeks and starting to get quite achey too after an easy second tri and a horrible first one

My ribs are sore, my back is painful, I can't get comfortable and I feel nauseous. I saw midwife yesterday and all normal, apparently!

You should of course be on the lookout for pre-eclampsia symptoms but your body is carrying a heavy weight now, so look after yourself, take life a bit slower and don't be scared of aches and stretching pains Smile

Thanks stripey. What's making it hard though is DH and family saying "well, if you feel anything out of the ordinary..." erm....its all a bit out of the ordinary, people. Grin

Oh, and my DH seems to think that cause it's this time of year, its cold / flu....erm, no pretty sure I could recognise those symptoms.

Thank god for MN.

Haha, I so know what you mean - when it's your first, how the hell are you meant to know whether it's usual pregnancy niggles or something more serious?! Grin

Cheers to MN - I have literally no idea what pregnant women did before it Wine

BlackFlame glad you went and got checked out and it's all ok.
My DD is 6 weeks, so remember pg v clearly and with horror : I had vision disturbances from 28 weeks and had PE shouted at me - went and got checked out and it turned out it was something called chorioretinopathy - the excess fluid in your body in pregnancy settles behind your eye and pushes your retina forward; my vision went blurry in one eye and I "lost" 2 lines off the eye chart. Most mw's have no idea this can happen, it was a referral to the ophthalmology dept which got the name put to it. It's annoying, but utterly harmless and it disappeared the instant DD was born.
Your other stuff sounds like me at 30 wks too - it started to get really uncomfortable then. I feel for you love. :) I hated being pg, even after 4 years of ttc!
Completely agree with whoever said "I'm a first timer, how am I supposed to know what's right and wrong"!!
Congratulations, btw :)

Thanks Jennifer. I had read about eyesight depleting, but mixed with other things makes it scary Smile.

I feel like a ton weight now, even though my bump is teeny. And am pretty certain LO is head down, so everything's being 'pressed on' iykwim. And I have a niggling feeling it's going to be early Confused. My mum's away in NYC for a week the fortnight before Im due, and Im envisaging her coming back to meet her grandchild!!
