Pregnancy

There's no chance it's two, right?

I had a scan at 5w5d and they said there didn't appear to be two.

I'm just a bit worried. My 12w scan is a week today, and I've had much worse symptoms this time round and I've been absolutely shattered. And I had symptoms and a bfp about 5 days after we did the deed. And the bfp said 2-3 weeks post conception. I know that those conception indicators are unreliable but it's been making me wonder if I had a really high hormone level.

But they would have seen a second one at 5+5, wouldn't they?

It is possible another was hiding, however I would think the chance is slim and your just having a harder time of it. You will find out next week! Conception indicaters are pants as you know!

See it's the very very slim possibility that's freaking me out. Rationally I know that they would have had a good look, and they didn't see another so it's not there.

Gah I hate being an irrational mess. Hopefully the 2nd trimester will be calmer.

Thanks for the reassurance :)

Is your first a boy? Lots of people say that symptoms are worse if you're carrying a girl. Probably an old wives' tale, though FWIW I have two boys and had absolutely no morning sickness or anything else with either PG.

If it is any consolation this Pg (Dc2) I have been so rough! With my first I was sick alot, but I have been exhausted, nauseated almost 24/7 and generally feeling like death warmed up. I have just swapped the early pg problems for back pain and SPD now I am 17+4. Neither of which I had before, I think you just have more happening, running after a toddler. etc and there is only one in here :)

Don't fret, it's not long now before the scan and at 12 weeks they'll be able to see much better whether it is one or two. :)

FWIW, I had barely any first trimester symptoms with DS1...a horrible first trimester with DS2...and am currently 9+ weeks and have to keep reminding myself I am prergnant because there's nothing but a bit or tiredness and overeating more than usual.

It's been hot, which is tiring, and like someone else said, this time you are chasing a toddler too.

Oh yikes Purplebuns, sorry to hear that! I hope things get better, and I certainly hope they don't get any worse!

I think you're probably right about it just being more full on having one to start with this time. DS isn't quite a year yet, so there's not much independence there yet.

Yes, DC1 is a boy. With him I felt quite nauseous but was only sick twice.

This time I've been sick a lot, lot more (mostly in the evening), I feel nauseous all the time, but much worse nausea, I almost throw up (iyswim) about once an hour, and I just feel like hell. Plus I feel like I'm on fire, I'm so freaking hot. Oh god, and the headaches...

Maybe it is a girl...

It is highly unlikely, most twins have separate sacs, so they would have most likely seen two gestation sacs on your last scan, unless it is identical twins that also share a placenta, in which case one of them might not have "appeared" yet.
A very very slight chance, you are probably just having the one!

Thanks wellies :) I'm sure really it's just be one, I've just been a bit surprised after an easy time of it last time.

Last time I had a massive appetite too, this time I'm starving, but can barely eat. Although I've still managed to put on weight Hmm I think it's because all I want to eat is cheese :o

Oooh just to freak you out a bit Grin In the nicest possible way of course.

I had an early scan at about 6 weeks. Showed a sac with a barely there bean.

At 9 weeks and 2 days i had a nother scan and it showed TWINS.

At 15 weeks i had another scan and it showed TRIPLETS but one had died.

It was 13 years ago now. I mean scans have come on leaps and bounds since then. You have nothing to worry about. Probably.

Grin

Did they have the dildocam back then though? Would be very easy to miss stuff on a 13 years ago abdominal san.

My mum had twins and she didn't know about it until one came out (in the back seat of the car!) and she realised it wasn't all over yet!!! That was the first she knew about it being twins.
That was in 1980 though, to be fair.

largeginandtonic · 04/10/2011 10:37

Oh yes. First scan was a dildocam.

Scared?

lmao we are useless in the reassurance stakes, to be fair I was a tiny bit dissapointed at my 9w scan that there was only one I have no idea why because Im terrified of one never mind two Grin

Oh bloody hell - I need a large gin and tonic now! How the hell did they miss three! And with a dildocam. Sorry to hear that one of them didn't make it though :(

Actually I am scared now, the scan report said they couldn't see the left ovary properly, and that there was what "appeared to be a cyst", which (when I've just checked the measurements) had the same measurements as the baby. Which has worried me on two counts: 1. they couldn't see everything anyway, 2. I'm not highly suspicious about the "cyst".

I should have stopped reading at Kat's first post, you're all making me worse :o

themightyskim - I've got a visible bump. I think it's just because it's number 2 and too much cheese though.

Bugger.

Two is GREAT fun Grin

It is fine. My sister is newly pregnant and with my twin/triplet history they had a good look at her early scan, 5 weeks. Showed a sac no bean quite yet.

I did tease her though and when she had another scan on Monday at 9w+5 days and there was just the one.

If it makes you feel any better I had been freaking out thinking I might be having twins this time as I have had much worse sickness and nausea this time. I also gained loads of weight really quickly and started showing early. At the 12 week scan last week there was just the one!

Report
phlossie · 04/10/2011 20:01

I had much worse sickness this time - DC3 - and I was ENORMOUS by about 8 weeks. Everyone kept saying it was twins. But, there's only one, and the massive growing calmed down. I think your pg symptoms get worse each time as you have more to do looking after DCs and you're getting older and more decrepit!

Report
Fluter · 04/10/2011 20:09

I don't think you can take excessive symptoms as being an indicator of twins. I'm expecting twins in the next week. I had a definite bump at 6/7 weeks - although I was a little round about the tum to start with Grin, and had a very high hormone level, I had no sickness, very little nausea, no headaches or anything much beyond tiredness, so no obvious 'twin' indicators (that's the reassuring bit...)
I had my first scan with the dildocam at 7 weeks, and they did see twins - I ought to add that we'd had IVF and two bean were put back in, so seeing two wasn't exactly a major surprise - but she had to rummage around to find the second one, so they can hide, depending on where they've landed (sorry, that's the not quite so reassuring bit...)
Either way - congratulations!!
