a dressing gown for hospital - mine and OHs are really think so they will be way too hot - can't seem to find a thin one - considering i'll barely be wearing it (hopefully)

What about fitflops - I've left it too late to get them - can find cheap crocs tho for the shower...

Hospitals are like saunas ime and I definitely didn't need a bid dressing gown but I did feel I needed something to cover up a bit. I had a 3 piece pj's with a little jacket thing like this

I think a good rule to bear in mind with all the packing lists is that if you don't wear/use one normally you probably won't want/think to use one in labour/hospital either.

I also found the showers perfectly clean enough to go in with no shoes on.

I'd just get a large t-shirt for decency - and maybe take your own towel to wrap round you in case the hospital ones are small.

I figured I'd just wash my feet if necssary but in fact the showers were OK.

No you don't - just do what the others have said and take things that make you feel comfy and covered :) Bearing in mind what might be most suitable if you are going to bf :)

thank you - I'm due in 7 weeks, but waiting to have a scan about my placenta so could be in for a CS in 5 weeks!

I have a pair of PJs so might need to get something else to wear in bed/lounging around - think I'll scrap the dressing gown - I wear one at home when its cold.... I guess I was just thinking of decency rather than keeping warm!

Better get myself off to eBay!

Cheap slippers for walking around the ward. I used my dressing gown only because my baby was in snicu so a bit of a trek.

I think you'll be way too hot for a dressing gown. I've had babies in summer and winter and could not have worn one.

Instead of pyjamas I took loose yoga pants/jogging bottoms, a couple of vests and a thin sweatshirt.

I never took flip flops either.

If you have a section, make sure you have some big knickers that won't press on your wound. I got dressed as soon as I could, so no need for a dressing gown.

I got a v light cheap dark dressing gown in Primark, might be worth checking out because it wsn't too hot but it was easy to throw on and be covered.

Would def take flip-flops, have heard horror tales of showers.

If you're going to potentially have c-section with complications requiring iv, then something you can get on over the drips without umpteen helpers is good.

I didn't take a dressing gown last time as hospitals are hotter than hell but the midwives really told me off for not having one. Was really strange, they were quite annoyed about it.

I've got a £16 thin dressing gown from M&S - but I wear one anyway about the place, so if I don't in hospital, I will at home. I don't have PJ's, only short nightshirts, so might feel a bit exposed on the ward otherwise.

I got a pair of flip flops from one of those cheap shoe shop places - and actually my feet have swelled up so much this last week that they're the only sort of thing that's comfortable to wear ATM.

not from experience of having ababy in hospital, but last time I was in hospital, I just wore pyjamas.
I didn't have a dressing gown (far too hot!) and I didn't have slippers either - I walked around the place in either bare feet or my socks, and it was fine.
I was in for a fortnight.

I would take a couple of nighties instead of all pj's, as I had a catheter for 3 days post birth and couldn't have worn pjs. Primark do a pack of two for about £5 which are just like thick cotton long t-shirts and aren't too "granny-ish".

Marks and spencers have a couple of 'relax at home' sets I am planning on getting for going in to have my baby in january.

they have stretch bottoms, tops with buttons in stretch fabric, so good for breastfeeding, and then oversized c0-ordinated grandad style shirts. I think they look quite comfy, but practical, and the bottoms and tops are in dark colours.

Like everyone says, it's devilishly hot in hospital. Try Peacocks for cute cotton PJs with wraps that are perfect for BF too. You'll wear them once you're home too - I found pretty loungewear much easier to recieve guests in than getting properly dressed for the first few days. Maternity stuff was too big but I was still too fat for my other clothes. Plus I had a CS and didn't want anything tight on my scar.

Comfy cool dark lounging trousers and a loose Tshirt.
I actually threw back on the tunic and leggings I'd worn most of my pregnancy (but DD was a dot and I never got big enough for maternity jeans)
I felt a bit of a fraud in night clothes, I wasn't I'll and I wanted to go home. DD was a pain
To feed, but that's a whole new thread.
