Pregnancy

do people still have 4+ kids

I know this may seem like a weird question but I may be pregnant with baby number 4 and when I think about my friends, collegues and people at school in this day and age do people actually have more than 3 children? I only know of one woman with 4 kids and she is a single mum. I know you shouldnt worry what others think and think more of what my other 3 kids think but people are very judgemental these days. I am one of 4 and so is my hubby but does anyone else out there have a large family coz I only ever hear bad things about big families and I want to continue working part time and not be one of these statistics. I admire anyone who has a large family and would love to hear what people think and whether I am just being silly :D

I have 3 friends who have 4 kids. 2 are married and one is divorced, about to remarry.

I should add, the lady who is about to remarry, her ex only had kids every other weekend and every wednesday and she works practically full time. Her kids are aged between 6-14. I think she's superwoman

I have 4 children. So does my best friend. I think there are more people out there than you realise.

i dont think its that unusual but it is unusual enough for it to be commented upon iykwim?

I'm pregs with ds4-bit unplanned-and still working. My others are little -5,3 and 18m. I have to say I do feel like a bit of a freak especially at work (I'm in banking - people are very 'normal -either none or 2 and then much more part time than me). I was also reminded tonight when at school meeting I saw a friend whose son we'd bumped into when he was being looked after for her by her friend as she was at a funeral. She commented how her friend didn't know my name but had passed on that I was on my fourth and she knew it could only have been me. Tbh I think I'd feel a bit less freakish if I didn't work and was a SAHM - it seems to be more 'acceptable' to others that way.

i know people with 4+ although i suppose not that many but i don't think it is weird at all. i have 3 and definitely would like atleast 1 or 2 more.
anyway would try not too worry too much what people think, as long as you are happy that's what matters its noone else business! congrats on your number 4!

How come I don't know anyone with more than 3 kids?

Maybe I should go out more :)

I'm preg with dc4! Not everyone realises though as I have big age gaps: ds1 is 22, ds2 is 20, dd is 5 and ds3 is due 22 Dec. Most of the mums at school assume dd is my first, as do lots of mw's until they read my notes back far enough Grin.

I had only planned on my two ds's to be honest as xh was an arse to put it mildly. Met dh and it was just the right thing for us to do. He has an older dd too, so we will have 5 between us.

Dh is 1 of 4, and his aunt also has 4. I have a couple of friends with 4, and one with 5. But I do think that these days it's the exception.

My friend is about to have number 6. I guess maybe less common as less people can afford it?

I'm planning on just having the one, and that's equally unusual and commented on tbh.

How many people honestly can afford to have 5-6 kids and put them through a good education if uni fee is around 9K/year?

I know quite a lot of four children families. But I live in a town where housing is relatively cheap, and big houses are easy to find. We certainly chose to have a fourth child because we had a five bedroomed house, and an empty bedroom seemed..... well, wrong

Oh see you're obviously a lot more of a natural than me jeee - I see spare room and think 'oooh craft room or dressing room?' Grin

Funny my friend with 6 kids, her husband said shall we get a 8 seater car or 9 seater, she said best stick with 8 or I'll just look at that ninth seat and want to fill it....

Pootles2010

I got same ideas with you.

We live in 5 bed house.
Have guestroom for families to visit, office for my husband and extra bedroom for au-pair who will arrive next year.

Office for your husband?! Unless he works from home (in which case I'll let him off) where's your office/hidey hole?

That's really sweet lockets.

Gosh, I know plenty of childless people as well as plenty with 4+ kids. All kinds of people with big families, only one of them a scarey character in Housing Assoc. house.

im expecting my 5th.....and i too decided that with a 6 bedroom house, each bedroom needed filling.
my oldest DD will be heading out to uni in 2 years, she is obsessing about finances more than i am......we will manage
