Random or silly things you're worried about...

Nearly 16 weeks with first little one and I sometimes laugh at myself for the things I start to worry about.... So here goes:-

  1. I've convinced myself we're having a boy and worry that if we're told it's a girl I might feel disappointed and baby might feel it!!!

  1. I worry about shouting, screaming and swearing in labour.

  1. I worried once, for a milli-second, that I wouldn't find a nice changing bag to match our pram... We haven't even looked at prams yet!?!?!

  1. I worry that I will sit in my pjs, with my fingers stuck in my ears rocking in the corner not knowing how to look after my baby.

Anyone else have anything to share???

I keep worrying that I haven't eaten any oily fish yet, even though the reason I haven't is because of nausea - even if I got some salmon down it would be straight back up rendering it useless anyway!

Oh and I'm 16 weeks as well Mrs RV!

I worry (maybe not entirely seriously) about leaving the baby somewhere and then an hour later going "Oh yeah I'm a mum now, where did I leave the bloody thing"!
I also worry that the taxi driver won't let me in when he finds out I'm in labour in case I ruin his interiors!

I worry I will be having baby on the side of the road in a snowdrift (due 13th Dec)

I worry I wont be able to find a non gendered snowsuit in time

I have a running theme of worry about the weather apparently!

My job is quite high-pressure, and we've been having a lot of shouty meetings of late. I worry about messing with the baby's pre-natal serenity (14 weeks - not all that sure how much he or she can hear anyway?), and despite not going public with my pregnancy at work, am strongly tempted to tell everyone to pipe down, so as not to ruin my baby's Yogic Calm. Blush

And every time I eat anything remotely junk-food-ish, I guiltily imagine someone force-feeding a newborn crisps and feel terrible...

I'm almost 37 wks and still worry about squashing my little bean because I can only really comfortable sleep on my stomach...I have a small tidy bump so can still sleep on most of my tummy when tilted at the right angle Blush but feel really guilty (and scared) when I wake up an realise I rolled over on my front :(

MyDaydream I had that exact worry last night! OH is away this weekend and although I've got four weeks left to go I was running through "What if..."s and came up with well if I need to go to the hospital because my waters have gone will a taxi actually take me?

My only other recurring one is trying to bath the baby and dropping them. I'm absolutely terrified!

cravingcake · 23/09/2011 11:31

Same as stickyghost. I've started my birthplan and have put in there that if there are any toilet accidents I dont want to be told, just please let it be cleared up discreetly (apparently you sometimes dont realise through the pain/drugs etc).

I worry about being late, or early. Am 34 weeks and do not feel ready for this.

Oh, and dropping the baby - i'm clumsy at the best of times.

StickyGhost · 23/09/2011 12:05

That's a good one cravingcake, must add that stipulation to my birth plan as well!

stickyghost and cravingcake

It happens (did to me 2nd time), and the midwives clear it away really fast and don't make a fuss about it. You don't need to put it on your birth plan, they're prepared for it.

I only noticed because I was trying to get into the birth pool between pushes.

cravingcake · 23/09/2011 12:44

Ta neddle. Apparently my hospital isnt great at reading birthplans so I'm doing it for my OH to learn off by heart read so he know's what I'd prefer and not prefer as when I'm in pain I'm not great at communicating. I'm not too worried about the actual birth as the midwives are the experts, and I'm just going to go with what they suggest but need my OH to be able to speak up when/if I cant.

1 Dressing it how do you know when it is too cold, too hot etc Everyone talks about layers how much clothing is too much???

2 Pooing self in labour a massive one, but so is tearing and episiostomy (gads)

3 It will come out a girl now that we have seen a number of times on scans it is a boy and will have a house full of inappropriate clothing.

4 The umbilical cord stump - it just scares me!!!

5 Breastfeeding in public - i am prude and will just have to not leave the house for 6 months

god i could go on and on and on

Looking like an idiot when I don't know what half of the things I'm told are 'essential' are/are for (muslin squares? WTF? Why?!).

Not knowing what clothes to put on it (if wearing a sleepsuit, is a vest required also? And what sort? Long/short sleeved?).

Not remembering how the pram/car seat/chassis contraption works while out in public, it's all very complicated!

Report
CitizenOscar · 23/09/2011 21:36

Don't know if you're looking for reassurance but...

  • you might poo yourself but it doesn't matter nearly as much as you think it will (I promise!)

  • muslins are for everything! E.g. Put them underneath baby when you put them down anywhere (bed/pram/playmat/sofa) - much easier to wash a cloth than a sofa when they spit/vomit. On your shoulder when you're winding the baby so they don't vomit all over your clothes. As an impromptu bib. My baby quite likes to chew/suck on them too.

  • layers can be tricky but again not as crucial as you think now. In hospital it's bound to be hot, so just a vest might be fine. Now the weather's cooler I probably would put a vest under a sleepsuit but at night I put him in a sleepsuit (no vest) and a baby sleeping bag. But I know people who did vest+sleepsuit even in warm weather and their baby is fine too Smile

If you're just listing worries and not wanting reassurance, then ignore me!

My DH's big worry was that the baby would look like an alien when he came out. He didn't Grin

I am worried that people will invade my space and demand to see the baby when they feel like it. I'm terrified of not having an epidural!

I have lots of real worries but also plenty of ones that I know are daft...

The thought of cleaning the umbilical stump - makes me nauseous just thinking about it.

Whether we need a new camera with a better indoor setting for early pictures.

What if I need to go into hospital during rush hour and get stuck in traffic?

How much bigger are my boobs going to get and will I end up needing scaffolding?

What if my feet change size permanently and I can't wear any of my lovely shoes?

I'm not really worried about pooing or shoes - the pain is more scary and I already have men's feet so don't own any nice shoes!!

My worries are ..

My boobs haven't grown yet - what if they don't and I can't breastfeed?

What if I don't think my baby is as lovely as X's and wish I had someone else's baby instead?

What if life becomes so expensive that I have to work round the clock to provide for my baby, and never actually have any time with my children?

But generally I'm too busy getting on with things to overanalyse these!

LoveInAColdClimate · 23/09/2011 23:22

I am especially worried about the shoes as DH bought me some beautiful Jimmy Choos as a (rather ill advised but very kindly meant) pregnancy present when I was still feeling horrible and sick which I haven't had a chance to wear outside the house yet! I do hope my feet don't expand...
