Can you take Omerprazole whilst pregnant?!

I've got gallstones and i'm having my gallbladder removed after i've had my baby.

I'm 9 weeks 3 days at the mo and i think i could do with a few days of my 20mg Omerprazole tablets, i've not needed any since finding out i'm expecting!

Does anyone know if they're ok to take whilst pregnant or should i phone my gp? x

Yes - I've been prescribed them to stop the heartburn that was irritating my throat and causing a hacking cough. Unfortunately they've given me oral thrush so I have to take revolting Nystan drops too. I don't know whether to continue or not.

I'm 3rd trimester though - better check with your doc that they are ok in 1st trimester, just in case. Smile

I was prescribed these at 6 months. Felt amazing, got rid of 3 month hacking cough too (I guess caused by stomach acid)!

I was taking these before I was pregnant for IBS and when I saw the doctor just after my BFP she said I was absolutely fine to carry on - thank god!

I was prescribed these and advised not to take them before 16wks. g
GP said that was when the most crucial development was over.

In the end I decided not to take them full stop after a discussion with the pharmacist. She had read recent research on a drug from the same drug group that had in rare cases had effects on baby's nervous system.

Also I would recommend a discussion with gp. If these were prescribed Pre pregnancy then they should only be taken now you are pregnant after checking.

I've spoken to gp and she said they're fine to take, I'm bent over in agony and don't sleep if I have a gallstone attack so that really can't be good for baby, thank god these stop it happening x
