18wks & awful period type pain

Hi all,
Probably me being a complete stress head again but as my title says I'm 18 wkd today & have very low down period like pain. I am feeling baby moving & movements are a bit lower down & I have been doing loads of cleaning & tidying. No bleeding or anything like that. Is this just my uterus stretching? Baby beating me up inside?
I just love this little baby so much already & am always so scared something will go wrong x

Might be round ligament pain caused by your uterus stretching. Can be quite painful if you over do it. Try to rest or have a lie down for a bit and if no improvement maybe call Maternity Unit. Try not to worry too much x

Thank you, I'm laying in the bath now & squiglett is bouncing around. I'm nesting like a mad women & really need to take it a bit easier but it's like I'm remote controlled, lol. I am going to take this as a sign to slow down now

It could be round ligament pain, I had alot of it in my last pregnancy, I'm 18 weeks too and have spent the day worrying that I haven't felt the baby move today ( up until 10 mins ago ! ) if it doesn't go phone the maternity unit and see what they say

Please please go to the hospital and insist on being thoroughly checked out.

It is rare what happened to me (>1% according to my consultant) but I am talking from personal experience. I ignored period type pains until the day after they started. I was 4 cm by then. My girl was born the same night at 24+1. I had streptococcus not knowing it, the membranes got infected the rest it history.

She was very lively btw, no problems with movement.

It is rare through, so keep this in mind.

But when are pregnancy pains and niggles bad enough to go to hospital? I really struggle with this. I'm 19 weeks and have, through the whole of this pregnancy so far, had aches in my lower abdomen now and again. I couldn't even describe them. Should I go into hospital every single time?

Btw, bemybebe, I'm very sorry about what happened to you and your little girl.

if you search my name here you may come across a message I sent to mn ante-natal thread that i am having bad period pains. i tried to find it but could not. i remember it was not too bad, but they were continuous. they were not 'labour' pains, but they were really strong in the end. unfortunately, i ignored them until my mucus plug started coming off.

period pains are common. how on earth can one judge when to take it seriously? no idea. maybe just go to the hospital and get reassured by someone who actually looks inside you. not someone on the phone and not someone on an internet forum

sorry, do not mean to scare anyone. just wish someone told me at the time to take it seriously

found my mn message. that is why i have posted what i posted. i called the mw the next day and was told it is normal at my stage (24 weeks exactly)

i do!!!! can be very worrying at times and feels worse when walking long distances. i am abroad now, but will book mw asa i am back, as it does concern me.

i am going away now because i do not want to scare living lights out of people. what happened to me is RARE. only i will regret for the rest of my life not going and getting it check out in time

Thanks bemybebe for your reply and I agree that OPs description of "awful pains" is different to what I have been feeling and that worrying pains should always be checked out.

The reason I keep worrying is that I have been abroad for 6 weeks of my pregnancy already and felt that the ante-natal care I received in that country was miles better. Noone here in the UK has ever done an internal exam on me or taken a urine sample to check for infection. Both are things that are routinely done every 4 weeks in my home country so I feel a little weird about not seeing a medical professional that often. If I had a question or worry back home, I'd just phone my doctor, but here you phone some random person in maternity triage 40 mins away, so I feel like I'm hasseling them.

I feel like I can't say anything about the care I receive here because I'm a foreigner and therefore cold just leave (I actually can't) if I don't like it.

And bemybebe, it's right that you posted because all experiences must be heard. There is no point of reassuring people that everything is normal when it might not be because really we have no way of knowing.

you will laugh at this. when i finally arrived at the hospital and was asked when I was last checked out i said "hmm, actually (ahem), never"... they (the doctors) had a massive go at me! i never had an internal (well, just once at the a&e, but it is a different story)

I'm sorry about What happened to you and your daughter bemy both ds2 and ds3 were early allthough only 5 weeks and 8 weeks but some days the thought that this baby might be early and before 30 weeks frightens the life out of me

Thank you all for your messages & bemybebe thank you for sharing your experience, I an sorry to hear about your daughter. After a bath & relaxing my pain went away & I am sure I just over did it but am going to pop to a & e if it comes back at all. After looking up round ligament pain it did sound very similar.

glad to hear you are feeling better. I actually ended up going to A&E tonight because I couldn't stop worrying. Well, it's a massive hospital and they neither had a midwife nor a OB/GYN there so I ended up with the out of hours GP who diagnosed ligament pains and a UTI and gave me antibiotics. Not exactly sure who happy I am with his diagnosis since all he did was check my urine and he's not exactly qualified in ante-natal stuff...

I've just dropped my dc to school & am popping to a&e now as my tummy was uncomfortable during the night & just need reassurance now.
Hope the dr was right with you. It is hard when you have to see someone other than those most knowledgeable in the area of concern. I had a cyst at my 12 week scan & am wondering if that could be causing the problems? Hopefully I will just be wasting a morning in a&e for nothing, that would be a good outcome for me.

Thanx moonmins, still waiting 2 hrs later. Gynae won't see me because I am less than 20 weeks so just sitting in a&e waiting & waiting & waiting

I have been told I am overdoing it & to put my feet up & take paracetomol & also that it is stretching pains. The placement seemed to reassure the dr that it wasn't baby. They wanted me to do a urine sample to check for infection & as always I couldn't pee on demand so I have to take that to my gp to get it checked tomorrow rather than sit in the hospital for another 10 mins as they obviously just wanted to sign me off.
Feel kind of reassured but not much

I think I'm having similar things - a very faint ache in my lower stomach, especially when I need to pee. I'm also very paranoid about movements, but have only felt the odd poke and shuffling around rather than anything regular so far. I hate how much being pg turns me into an anxious mess!

Squigletts, glad to hear you are ok, well kind of.
Did they check your babies heartbeat at all? I was really bothered by the fact that they didn't and treated me as if I wasn't pregnant. Like they had decided from the start that I have an UTI.

I have another appointment with my GP as well tomorrow, so will ask her advice as she has been brilliant so far supporting me through a difficult time with my boss. It's getting me down.

No mrsh, as you say they didn't really acknowledge my pregnancy at all. It's only that I can feel loads of movement or I would have insisted. Seems like before 20 weeks your just treated like a fat lady!

I remember the period type ligament pains I had last time were different to the ones I had when labour started early, even though the were mild I could time them and they were comming at regular intervals unlike the ligament pains which couldn't be timed
