Anyone successfully turned a breech baby?

I'm 40+1 and went for a sweep today. The short version is that I ended up going for a presentation scan and baby is breech. There are a few issues about the community MW missing it which are going to be sorted another time but I'm booked for an ECV on Wednesday to try and turn her. Failing that it'll be a caesarean.

I've been Googling (bad, I know) and there are supposedly several things to try at home? Anyone got any tips I can try out, did they work and if so could you tell straight away (eg, did you feel baby move?)? I'm currently laying on the sofa with my head/chest on the seat and my legs/hips on the armrest!

All the tips I've heard:

1. Visualisation is meant to be the most effective method (looked up the research on various methods when SIL was booked in for a c-section without them even trying to turn baby). Literally visualise baby being head-engaged.
   
2. Feet above chest
   
3. Swimming (of you can bear it) crawl or breast stroke if it's not doing your hips any harm
   
4. Regular birthing ball time....

very cold glass of water on babys head is supposed to help!

My boy keeps somersaulting, every other appointment he is either breech or cephalic, hopefully he's the right way in 6 weeks when he is due.

Apparently when the doctors try to turn your baby there is a 50% success rate, although some people are just good at it and can have a 70% success rate.

I read something on the British Medical Journal's website too about breech babies. It was talking about whether that most obstetricians these days are inexperienced in vaginal births was a big problem. The conclusion it came to was that while it would be good if more obstetricians would brave a breech vaginal birth for the sake of experience, it is much safer for the child to be born by c-section.

Hi OP. how are you getting on with the suggestions? I found out baby is breech today at 36+3 and am booked for ECV next Tues. I think I just have a wriggly baby though. They were head down til recently i think.

Hi Wheels, I've got my ECV tomorrow morning. I had another go at lying on the sofa with my hips/pelvis raised earlier today and was getting lots of movements. I don't know if I've turned her but I had some actual kicks down low so I think I've managed to get her bum to disengage from my pelvis at least. I'll see tomorrow when they do the scan - DH is convinced she'll be head down and laughing at us, hoping he's right! My only worry is that being over 40 weeks (40+3 tomorrow) she'll be too big to turn or labour will start between now and tomorrow putting me straight into the line for a caesarean. I'll let you know how the ECV goes :)
