33+4 with unexplained bleed

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or similar....I've been admitted to hospital today after having a 'significant' bleed. I've been checked out & baby monitored & everything seems normal, I've had no pain or cramping either, cervix closed & no contractions. I've also had v straight forward pregnancy with no complications so it was a bit of an unpleasant surprise!
So far no one can explain this & it may be just one of those pregnancy things. All advice welcome....

I had a bleed at 26 weeks and was kept in overnight. When they looked, there was blood on the cervix area (putting the speculum up definitely made it worse). I had to have anti D (due to A neg blood group) but tests showed no blood crossover between me and the baby.

The next morning, the docs scanned to check for placenta problems etc but there weren't any - placenta high and attached. I was told that in a third of cases, bleeds in later pregnancy are unexplained - some people are just bleeders! Have you had sex recently? That can set it off.

They let me out the next day and I haven't bled since (now 31 weeks) but I wouldn't be shocked if it happened again (I bled earlier in preg too). The thing is with bleeding, it is a real 'red flag' for some dangerous problems so they are very cautious about it - but in other cases, it doesn't mean anything at all. You're in the best place for being checked, but I would try not to worry too much yet.

The other good news is that although you're early, at nearly 34 weeks, if your baby was born now he or she would have excellent chances of being just fine.

Scary though I know - good luck x

Hi - I'm 38+1 and have had 6 unexplained bleeds....all of which needed anti d (due to rhesus negative). 3 of the bleeds meant that they kept me in hospital for a few days.

Like you everything seemed absolutely fine so with hindsight I wish the medics could have been a little more re-assuring that they'd ruled out everything sinister and I seemed in good shape. Thankfully no bleeds for about 6 weeks but have to confess that it's taken me a while to try and mend my absolutely shattered nerves!!

Hope all continues well for you.

PS - In the end they put on a sex ban...just in case!

OMG SmileyMS 6 bleeds! I'm not surprised your nerves were shattered, mine certainly were after this one time! I was discharged from hospital after being monitored for 24 hours and although not much reassurance given, there were no problems detected either, so hoping its just unlucky one off...
thanks for your reassurance ladies, knew I could count on MN!

Just had one at 33 weeks (although more a spot than bleeding). Had anti-d shot and they sent me on my way. With DS I had spotting and contractions at 32 weeks and another one at 35 weeks - he was delivered then by ECS just to be safe.
