Instincts about gender?

Hi all,

I'm having my anomaly scan tomorrow morning and we're hoping to find out what we're having. I have no real preference either way but my instincts tell me it's a girl. I know it's 50/50 and you can't predict but would you say your instincts were right more often than not? I think it's probably dangerous to assume, but surely every mum to be has a gut feeling?

As you can see I'm very impatient and don't want to wait until tomorrow to find out. It's gonna be a long night! :) xx

I really wanted a boy but all my instincts told me it was a girl. It was, and I wouldn't change her for the world. You will love it however it comes out :o

I'm defo having a boy ... no way would a girl make me feel this bloody rotten! Smile

I'm really not sure with this one - it has a slower heartbeat like a boy, but the facial features on the 20 week scan looked more delicate like a girl.

Some of my friends I have just known what they were going to have, but I have no idea with my own baby.

I saw a dream about a year ago where I had two little boys.

I already have 2 year old and I'm now pregnant with another :)

I've felt sure all along that it's a boy. Then suddenly at 35 weeks I feel certain it's a girl! I'll be chuffed to bits either way.

Some of the old-wives theories point to girl, some point to boy, but my MW consistently refers to it as "he" (not sure if that is normal or if she knows something she isn't telling me!)

In my first pg I thought i was having a boy all along; 20 week scan said boy and we only chose a boy's name. Baby was a boy. I really wanted a boy.

I'm 32 weeks with DC2 now and also thought I was having a boy this time although I really have no preference this time. 20 week scan inconclusive; private scan at 22 weeks showed a girl very clearly. I'll let you know in 6-10 weeks time!

I have one of each and while pregnant with DS thought it was going to be a girl and with DD a boy - so my intuition's clearly rubbish, lol

Was convinced DD was a boy, had a name and everything.

Probably a good thing she was a girl as she was going to be called Rufus..

Nope, I don't know why either. Hormones or something.

I didn't 'know' but definitely I couldn't imagine having a boy at all - in fact when people used to refer to the bump as 'he' or say things like 'it looks like a boy to me!' Hmm I would feel quite indignant on behalf of the girl that I 'thought' it was. We found out at 20 weeks that she is definitely a SHE (I was absolutely elated to be right!)

i thought a boy, both times. two girls.

I was absolutely convinced from the second I first peed on the stick that I was having a boy. My gran who thinks she's some kind of baby predicting psychic thought it was a girl. I'm now sitting here feeding my son! Grin

Wow, so instincts are a bit hit and miss then! :) Everyone thinks we're having a girl apart from my mum who's sure it's a boy. My mum's a midwife so it makes me doubt my instincts a little bit, but having said that I also have an "oracle" of a granddad who thinks it's a girl (only been wrong once in 85 years!) so we'll see.

Oh, I'll be so upset if it decides to cross its legs so we can't see. Will hopefully be able to let you know if my instincts were right tomorrow! :)

I felt strongly that DD would be a boy, surprised me when she came out a girl. The midwife I had also thought that she would be a boy (theories about heart rates etc).

I felt like this one (currently 33 weeks) would be a girl, but both 20 week anomaly and private 3D scan at 28 weeks confirmed boy. So clearly I'm rubbish at it!

Good luck with your scan.

Hi for my first pregnancy I was convinced I was having a boy from the first scan. I couldn't see anything I just referred to the little tadpole as him it was weird it was totally impulsive. It was a boy, I am pregnant again now only a few weeks no scan yet and no clue as to what I am having we will wait and see in April next year.

I always knew it was a boy, and it was.
Sometimes they screw up though. One my friends was told girl, and it turned out it was a boy! Apparently they are more likely to screw up if they say it's a girl than if it's boy.

For some reason i seem to be convinced that i'm having a girl.

Haven't got a clue really and won't know for at least another six weeks.

Mmmmcheese · 02/09/2011 13:22

i was convinced that DS was a boy, and also convinced that current pregnancy is a girl - and I was right again! No real idea why I had such strong instincts about it but it's kind of nice thinking that my body somehow was telling me!

My gut feeling was wrong twice and then right once, so more or less what chance would predict.

Both times I had v strong instincts about their gender and both times I was right. Not sure why! Have fun at your scan tomorrow?! Smile

I was convinced we were having a boy, also picked a name and everything. Turned out at the scan it's a girl!

I knew from day 1 my bean was a girl, never even entered my mind it could be a boy. 20 week scan said 70% sure its a girl 23 week 4d scan said its a girl. Both people doing the scans said trust your instinct as is usually right!

With DD I was having dreams about girl babies throughout pregnancy.

Had DS not long ago and I over-analysed every dream, so didn't trust my instincts.

Except for one thing. When discussing baby names during both pregnancies, I was somehow more tenacious in wanting to discuss names for the gender we ended up having. With DD, DH was convinced she would be a boy, so only wanted to talk about boy's names, but I became obsessed with girl's names and kept wanting to talk about them.

With DS I never really had my heart set on a girl's name, wasn't all that bothered, we decided on one that was a "that'll do". Whereas our boy's name was a firm decision.
