Pregnancy

Pale pink discharge, and now brown and quite a bit more....

10 weeks, 45 yrs old. I rang the gp and he will see me this afternoon.

Should I go to EPAU? Of course every one will tell me that all will be fine, but without a scan how do I know. First scan in 5 days. Cannot wait that long....

See if you can go to the epu this afternoon. Some will only see you in the morning, so maybe head to the docs first then epu tomorrow.
Brown and pink are probably signs of old blood, bright red more of a worry, but still not always the end.
Good luck.

Oh how frightening, I know how horrible that is. Hopefully your GP will send you off for a scan this afternoon. You could try ringing your EPU and asking if they will see you because of your bleeding. It could be nothing or it could be the start of something. The waiting to know is very very hard and I hope your doc/hospital will be sympathetic about that.
Fingers crossed for you that all will turn out ok. I had the coloured/blood tinged discharge at 5 1/2 weeks but scan a week later was fine. Not out of the woods yet but it isn't always a bad sign. My last miscarriage had no bleeding whatsoever before it was detected.

Can you afford to see someone privately? I would call and then turn up at the EPU and if no dice go privately. But, that said I have bled in previous pregnancies and things have been fine. Best of luck with it all, I really hope al is ok x

I was wondering this too. I had an 8 week scan yesterday - all fine & a heartbeat. Nurse said there was a little bit of blood at the top of the womb away from the baby. Today I had thin, pale pink discharge that has since become brown. Very light. I'm hoping this is just the little bit of blood at the top of the womb she mentioned. Seeing midwife at home on Tuesday, so I'll mention it, but if it stays the same and not worse, do I need an apt? After all, yesterday's scan was so positive!

Good luck, my love. It doesnt help that hormones are all over the place, does it?

Let us know!! Xx

Oh my lovely...thinking of you! You've done the right thing to send them home. Try and get some rest. Xx

your GP will be no help, I'd go to the EPAU. For me this has never been a good sign. even when there was a heartbeat seen, the spotting continued and eventually I miscarried. Hope that isn't the case for you though. Best wishes.

Just go straight to the hospital. I had my 16 weeks appointment with the midwife yesterday, and ever she said that the maternity unit is there for cases like this.
Good luck!

Thanks so much for all the advise. Seems there are a million different combinations of things that can happen.

My gp appointment is in 40 minutes. In the mean time I had a ring back from the hospital and they said that they are full tomorrow and could only see me in an emergency referral from the gp. (The nurse that rang me was just lovely - so kind, but could not fit me in).

DH is coming home to be with me so what I will do is see the GP, try my damndest to get an emergency referral and if that fails, i will go to A&E. EPU is closed til the morning - do people only have early preg traumas in the morning????

Yes and they don't have them on weekends or bank holidays either! (last time I needed the EPU it was the royal wedding) Also EPU isn't for emergencies. Unfortunately, despite the awful emotional trauma, a threatened miscarriage is not classed as an emergency. There's little point going to A&E unless you have extreme pain and/or bleeding heavier than one pad an hour.

Fingers crossed that your GP will be reasonable and give you a referral. I hope you get a scan in the morning .

Back from the GP with a referral for the EPU. He said he could feel my uterus if I liked but would not perform and internal (and with that, he did a Justine Fletcher / Makaton type hand movement imitating two fingers being inserted into a vagina - did he REALLY fucking need to do that??) No exam after all. I def did not want his fingers swooshing into my fanny, thanks!

He said what is more worrying than the brown discharge and mild cramping is the fact that I said I do not feel pregnant anymore - have had this for a few days now. He says it is not looking good.

I am hoping that a scan will prove him wrong.

hugs and good luck. hopefully you will see a heartbeat tomorrow and have some comfort - if so do ask for the hb rate though, as well as baby's measurements.

Thanks for the advice, goodnightmoon. I assume that that information will show that the foetus is still growing? Excuse the ignorance but what would that info tell me?

it would let you know if baby is developing on track with your dates. If you had any earlier scans it would also give you figures for comparison, though i see you said you're only now due for your first scan. A low heartrate (below 120bpm) can indicate problems.

I havnt had any bleeding but have severe cramps I also have polisistic overies so my change of miscarriage I'd higher than average, I have to wait till next friday to see if my little cells are growing or have gone. The waiting is horrendous!

I hope you get the result you wish for

Thanks so much for the good luck, crossed fingers and prayers. DH is so fed up that we could not get a scan straight away. But not too long now. Probably about 14 hours or so we should know if there's a heartbeat or not.

Just wanted to say I hope it all works out ok All.

And that it doesn't have to mean it's all gone wrong - I had bleeding (quite a bit of bright red at one point) with each of my pgs, at around 10 weeks. Each time I had cramping and was certain it was all over. But each time the heart beat was there strong as anything, and everything was fine. There was never a real explanation for the bleeding other than apparently it can be caused by 'lots of different things' Confused. The fact that it happened with each pg meant it was probably something to do with my anatomy.

So I am keeping everything crossed for you that it turns out to be the same as it was for me.... Smile

I understand this is a worrying time for you. Good luck withyour scan. They are likely to take blood as well to check hormone levels. I will say that around 10 weeks it is not uncommon to have spotting as the placenta embeds. On a personal note rather than proffesional (I am a midwife) I bled with all three of mine. The last until 28 weeks. All were fine in the end so please try and stay positive. I'll be thinking of you.
